Inferno Turf Replacement

I'm hearing more and more concerns regarding the Eagle Red turf replacement. Some are saying the NCAA will require a green replacement turf. Others are saying Thee Eagle Red turf is grandfathered. Is anyone aware of documentation one way or the other? And should the NCAA have the legal authority over turf color selection, can we fight it in court. It's probably time to begin seeking some answers, planning some actions. "Protect The Red!"

If that's the case then Boise and the others purple grey field need replacing too. I would say we should be grandfathered in.

I remember something on this from a while back, and the NCAA was going to ban new teams from changing to colored turf but existing teams could continue to use it, even adding new applications in existing non-green stadiums.

Can't imagine the NCAA would expect teams to change what's already in place. If they have made a ruling about it recently, but we're grandfathered into the old clause, that'd actually be a good thing.

According to a VERY reliable source the only requirement is that the lines are white.

This sounds most accurate. I grew up in Boise and we used to hear the same thing all the time. Nobody else was allowed to do it unless you were grandfathered in etc.

An interesting article discussing Boise's turf along with ours... https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/11/sports/ncaafootball/boise-state-mounts-a-paper-defense-of-its-home-turf.html

Our worries regarding the Red have nothing to do with the NCAA, they are internal. Most of the worries are financial but sadly not all. Lynn will rally the troops, she has being doing this since she arrived. Remember she is only the AD and she is not a full VP at EWU but an "Associate VP". That was progress for EWU as Bill didn't have even have that status. At times EWU cannot get out of their own way. This isn't unique, it's the state of higher education nationwide. There are a lot of people who work on college campuses who hate football. They aren't as vocal at EWU as they once were but they are still there.

:tothehand: I wanna see tangible upgrades to Roos Field completed under Lynn.

Only stipulation for EWU is that the lines have to remain white. Roos will remain red as it’s become the most visible university brand.

Only thing I could find are a few stories about BSU not being allowed to wear blue unis at home, but even then that didn't really stick. Thanks to EWU, the NFL only allows green turf.

The only credible threat to the red I can think of is BSU opting not to renew EWUs use of a non green field since they hold that trademark or something. I doubt that would happen unless EWU ever went FBS, which isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Great news. Would be nice if Eagle Washington University could lock that up with a legal document with BSU granting us Red permanency. Strategy time? Go Eags!
