Injury Ends Career of Weber Player

Senior nose tackle and defensive captain Derek Johnson injured his knee in the first quarter of last week's 18-10 loss at No. 1 Montana and will miss the remainder of the season. He tore his ACL, MCL and pretty much every other connective tissue when a Montana player chop blocked him.

According to McBride, the injury is the result of a blatant cheap shot by Montana offensive lineman Cody Balogh.

When it rains it pours...

When he first arrived at Weber State, Jimmy Barnes was viewed by many as the man to rescue the Wildcats.

Now, the sophomore quarterback transfer from Alabama is sidelined and may not see action for the rest of the season.

After losing his starting job during a woeful performance against Montana State, Barnes did not see playing time at Montana and is now out of action following surgery on his left knee.

Barnes injured the knee a year ago while at Alabama and this week's surgery was to clean out cartilage fragments from the ACL surgery.

Injury Ends Career of Weber State Player

What, if any, penalty can the BSC levy on Montana, if after reviewing the game film, the chop block was as McBride called a "blatant cheap shot." I didn't see in the article if the officials called a penalty on the play (I'll assume they did).

At least the UM coach and UM O-line coach called to apology to McBride...in the end, however, a young man's playing days are done as a result of the play.

Can anyone here in BengalDen.com recall a time or instance the BSC stepped in and intervened on such a play (or something similar) for football?

I do recall the BSC reviewing the game film of ISU MBB when Logan got wiped out by the Montana player and the BSC handed out suspensions.

From the sidelines, this is John Clayton, BengalDen.com ;D
