Intimidation factor

Is virtually zero in my opinion. KU better learn who out mascot is before Thursday. We already play UCLA, UW and WAZZU. And we played great against WSU.

I agree. KU is the team with the pressure and the coach who has lost in two recent first round games. KU fans all seem humble and respectful, but I wonder if KU players think this will be a cakewalk?

That's a possibility, that they think this is a cake walk but I doubt they are overlooking it. Most of this team experienced those recent first round losses. This is an experienced team with contributing seniors, a rarity and very talented younger players but really only one freshman that sees any real minutes.

We did however sleep walk through a game at Oklahoma State and got beat so its not like it can't happen. I doubt you guys come out intimidated, that happens in Allen Field house quite often but I'm not even sure you guys will be outnumbered in fans in Omaha. It's a hard ticket and Creighton season ticket holders got first dibs, a fellow mid-major and you are also going to have a lot of fans in purple because KSU is there also.

no offense at all to psu, but if our guys show up, it will be a cakewalk. jhawk the only reasonwe lost aainst osu was because sherron played 11q minutes and didnt score or influence the game at all. him healthy we play horribly in that game but still win by 10

No offense KU fans but if the only reason we lose is the crowd then I think all of will be happy. I know the odds. But one thing I am pretty sure we can eliminate as a factor for this game is the intimidation factor. We have played UCLA, UW and WSU and you guys may end up playing UCLA in the Championship if you all don't don't get upset. I will be respectful though believe me we know who the Jayhawks are. By the way great FB season this year. One other thing how well do you guys play against big men?

I appreciate your spirit but we are talking about a whole different level of competition now than when we played UCLA, UW and WSU early in the year. I don't think we can compare. Plus KU is at a whole different level than UW or WSU. Also, UCLA played us without Collison. However, I think PSU will play loose. There is nothing to lose. I hope they have a good time and give KU a good game. It won't do KU any good if we don't give them a good workout.

i didnt mean my comment to put down psu. i was just saying that i have watched ucla, unc, duke, memphis, texas and kansas a lot this year. when kansas is on, they beat all of those teams by 10-15 pts.

No way you beat UCLA or UNC by 10-15 pts.

UNC maybe

UCLA...don't think so. They're too balanced. They have an off day offensively and they can keep it close with solid defense.

I don't see us beating UCLA by 10-15--we'd be lucky to beat them at all. Hope we get a chance to find out. Of course it would be the game for the Championship. Both teams have much hard work to do before it occurs.

uconn worries me more than ucla. we were getting great looks and easy baskets against them last year, we just infuriatingly missed a bunch of bunnies. not to mention afflalo hitting 25 footers with 3 seconds left on the shot clock

collins, chalmers, rush, arthur, djack and robinson have all scored 20+ points once in a game this season, with kaun getting close(17pts). we are #1 in off and def efficiency. our "A" game is at least 10 points better than anyone elses "A" game. we bring an nba pg and 2 centers off the bench(aldrich will be in the nba eventually). we lead the nation in scoring margin. besides that top 8, we have 2 other top 100 players we bring off the bench including a defensive specialist in stewart.

We see a lot of UCLA out here in Portland of course. I'd pick KU over UCLA. UCLA has been lucky beating Stanford and a few other Pac-10 teams. Also, Kevin Love (Portland product) has been having sore back problems. I doubt he can recover enough to be 100% during the tourney.

I think the Pac-10 is too good a conference (last year and this year) to judge UCLA based on tough games in conference.

Doesn't mean that the people (at least two at ESPN) picking Kansas don't have a point. Just wondering how they'd match up with Love and Mbah a Moute again- pretty interesting.

There are lots of kinds of intimidation.

You won't find KU doing any posturing. By that I mean you won't see a numbskull flexing and trying to act all tough trying to intimidate anyone that way. That's rather bush league if you ask me. You will see enthusiasm about a good play, but it won't be directed at an opponent. It may be directed at the teammate the threw the assist, or to a parent in the stands. Of course, they won't back down if challenged either. I doubt we'll see any of that kind of stuff though. Coach Bone seems better than that.

I tend to agree with the PSU posters about having played in other arenas. That's good experience. If this game were played in Allen Fieldhouse, then maybe we could talk about the venue intimidating them. Allen has an aura about it that can overwhelm many opponents. Since this is played on a neutral floor, (albeit close to KU) the "Beware of the Phog" effect is somewhat limited.

The area where KU will have a real advantage is dealing with all the media and bigtime atmosphere. It is common for us. PSU will be under the biggest spotlight they have ever been under. It will undoubtedly affect them. Some teams can be motivated by it and play their best. Other teams can get nervous and play poorly.

I have little doubt that the simple logistics of having been through this before will help Kansas. Bill Self and the entire KU administration knows how practice schedules will operate, how press conferences will be handled, and a dozen other details. We won't be stressing over all that minutia. There probably have been plans in place for this trip to Omaha for a couple of months already. PSU will be learning a lot as they go. I'm certain that they will do fine, but there's no disputing that it takes time away from other areas of preparation.

For example, PSU should have been able to guess that they would be playing in an early game in an earlier time zone. Coach Bone may have thought ahead starting the day after the Big Sky Championship and started shifting his team's sleep cycle. Did he hold early morning practices even before the Selection Show?

It's these kinds of details that are what experience can give you.

Thanks for the compliment to the KU fanbase. We pride ourselves in generally being a very classy and respectful fanbase towards others...(of course you'll have to overlook our behavior when it comes to long-time conference opponents and especially our rivals).
As for our players...one thing Kansas teams very seldom ever do is overlook anyone. This year's team especially is very focused and doesn't overlook any game.
