Is PSU now a "basketball school"?

I agree, give credit where it is due. Until the football team prove themselves in the next couple seasons, I have to consider PSU a basketball school.

We're certainly a basketball school as far as the BSC is concerned. But - adding to the litany here - until the Stott is replaced.....

If you look at schools similar to our situation...

...they're mostly basketball schools WITHOUT football. Cleveland State is the obvious comparison. Thing is, you'll think of Sacramento State, San Jose State, and even San Diego State... maybe UNLV as well. The California schools I've mentioned have OR are having serious discussions about discontinuing football. UNLV barely draws better than San Jose State.

If Portland State can come out selling more season tickets than last year, then there's no worries. If PSU is waiting for the Montana game to draw a crowd, we're going to be right back in the middle of THAT discussion.

From what I've heard, back in the 1970s with Freeman Williams, PSU was a basketball school. Of course, we became a football school with Pokey.

I like the idea of being a threat at many levels, football, M BBall, W BBall, and volleyball. If we dominate in these 4 sports, in a matter of a few years we should be moving up to the WAC.

During the Freeman years we we're also doing pretty well with the Mouse Davis coached football teams.
