Is the seaon over yet?

I wish we could add another team to make it even! Southern Utah Univ or UC-Davis would be my top choices...or Cal Poly.

Davis and Poly are in love with the Big West and have created thier own GWFC football scheduling nightmare. Southern Utah might be a good choice.

We aren't "in love" with the Big West. It is a fit for us at this time and they sponsor more sports than the Big Sky, which is what we need. The scheduling nightmare for football is because there are so few FCS teams in the West and the BSC doesn't allow football members only.

Other than football the Big West would be a be a better fit for Sac State too. However the entire asthletic must be considered when choosing a league. Aside from a few sports the Big Sky fits that bill. The problem seems to be that Davis wants it both ways. Why would the Big Sky clog the schedule with football only schools when potential full members are waiting in line to get in?

Potential new members like who? They would all have to sponsor football and there are not a whole bunch of schools that sponsors FCS or Division II football out here.

I was under the impression that the Big Sky didn't want to add NDSU/SDSU, which is why they went to the Gateway. What would make you think that the Big Sky would want to add UND?USD?

Plus, with 9 members already, wouldn't it make sense from a scheduling standpoint to add one more member? Then you wouldn't have to deal with the odd travel pairings. Southern Utah would be the best bet, they could pair with Northern Arizona. The only downside to SUU coming in is that they sponsor more sports than the Big Sky offers. They would still need to find a home for a handful of ICA's.

I agree Southern Utah would be the most likely, they are a good match for Weber. We also had to find other leagues for our baseball, softball programs etc. so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I am not sure what happened to North Dakota State and Dakota State and doubt the Big Sky would even consider accepting North Dakota and South Dakota until they complete the transition to FCS. 12 schools really wouldn't be a problem if they had two divisions or rotated games.
One thing for sure, they will be some changes coming!

Also I've heard Poly really likes baseball and the 'Sky doesn't have it. How many more Div I sports does the Big West have than the Big Sky?

Don't Davis and Poly care about football much? It seems most of the Big Sky care only about football. Although, I think Poly and Davis have a better chance making the post season in the Gateway. The Big Sky is one of the best conf's for football in FCS.

Also, the Big Sky has no reason to add a school only for one sport.

Is Davis or Poly ever good at hoops?

Some years, Poly has a pretty good hoop team. They have made the BWC finals twice in the past 5 years. The BWC has a lot of outdoor sports: swimming and diving, baseball, softball; that the BSC doesn't have....though all we need is more school to add softball and then we will have six schools and they will have to be part of the BSC per conference guidelines.

UCD and Cal Poly will never join the Gateway, that move makes absolutely zero sense.

UCD currently sponsors 28 ICA's, so do the math. Both basketball programs are struggling right now, but they both should be on the rise in the very near future. We hopefully will be 100% better when Harden, Lowenthal, Malik and Ostreicher arrive on campus. Poly needs to can Bromley.

Because the Big Sky won't add a football only member, which is fine although not ideal for me, we will continue to make do with what we have. Hopefully we can drag USD out of the PFL (pigs will fly first) and maybe add another up and comer. West Coast FCS football is extremely difficult to sustain, especially when you are not in the Big Sky.

Good post Ag!

Big Sky should become a split all-sports conference. Have a conference championship game, winner goes to Choo-Choo. Good in-state rivalries.

BSC West
Sacramento State
UC Davis
Cal Poly
Portland St.
N. Arizona
S. Utah

BSC Mtn
Montana
Montana St.
Idaho St.
Weber St.
N. Colorado
E. Washington

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: NOOOOOOO to the Crapbirds. They couldn't even win a league title when the champ went 3-8. Screw 'em.

In the case of Cow Poly, why should baseball stand in the way? There's already at least ONE Sky team that already has baseball, and several others have club teams. To me, that's not a big deal. Send the baseball teams to the WAC or form a separate baseball league a la the PCSC.

Why thank you sir. The idea of splitting the BSC into two divisions would only strengthen the conference as a whole. Look at the power players in those, not to mention the great in-state rivalries it creates. Beyond that, look at the other strong games it will create. Adding UCD and Cal Poly to the conference will only help to create an even better atmosphere. We both are working to upgrade our facilities and CP has shown they can beat the Montana at Wa-Griz. I think we have a strong shot to do the same.

I would love to play you guys and have it count as a conference game. Either one could play spoiler to the other. I still don't understand why the BSC wouldn't want to add a few more teams to the slate.

The Big Sky can keep all the other sports the same, I don't care. It would be nice to have a stable conference for our football team.
