is this the year?

that the EAGS make it back to Frisco? The team seems to have all the pieces in place.

Agree, as do many others in forums I've read. EWU is stacked this year. That being said, I remember having high expectations in the past (especially the year after losing to SHSU in the playoffs, with Meyer, Kimble, Vijil, Trufant, and many others coming back) and having been even more disappointed by the outcome.

On paper, and in the media, it looks like EWU should win the whole thing. But so many things can happen throughout a season. I am more excited about this coming season than any in the past. There are weaknesses, but there aren't many. I would venture there are less than most teams. But if injuries take place, or the team loses focus, or any number of other things, the season could be worse than expected. That being said, if they stay healthy and focuses, I don't see any team this year stopping them.

I really think it depends on how our O and D lines shape up. If they perform, I think the team is deep and talented enough to go the distance.

Unless crazy things happen and we get bit by the injury bug, I think we will be hoisting our 2nd national championship trophy in January.

IMO this could be Baldwins most challenging year. Expectations are VERY high, the Eagles will see every other teams A game, with all of the talent on this team there could be a lot of egos to deal with, and a lot of drop down players (possibly more than ever before) that could upset the culture.
With all of that said, YES this is the year and I could see more to come in the near future.
Has the NCAA posted the date of the NC game?

More challenging than 2011?

EWU was pretty good in 2011, just got decimated by injuries. At the FCS level, that's always the potential glitch. Even the best teams are only a couple of key injuries away from being mediocre.

The answer will not be clear until the end of the season. No one expected 2011 to be tarnished by so many injuries. My point was the challenge could be in the form of maintaining team unity and meeting their expectations and those of the fans. et al.
Also the opposition will be performing at their peak for the #1 team in the nation.

Kaufman, both Johnsons, Edwards, and a decent chunk of our offensive line, amongst others. It all started to go wrong with that South Dakota game. Still proud of how that team finished off the year. Most teams would have completely folded in that situation.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, a couple of thoughts about the bearcats...

1). It's more than likely that they have high quality talent waiting in the wings. Their big three might be gone, but I remember what people were saying when our big three left.

I'm guessing their run has helped them to reload a bit versus rebuild.

2). Keeler is a successful coach and had some great defenses at UD. Expect their D to be more stingy than in the previous two seasons.

3). An unknown offense that Keeler is bringing in.

If we can make it through the season with a high number of wins, with most of our strong players in tact, and a high level of focus, I think we can take the crown this season. Getting every teams best shot should battle test us for the playoffs. I think we have been experiencing more and more of that since winning the NC, and the result, outside of our injury plague year, has been pretty good. I think even some of the "not so strong" Big Sky teams have played us really tough, as the game against us is likely the highlight of their season (kindof like UM used to be for us.)

Hi dude;
Which game do you feel is the greatest possibility of an upset?

Summer Scouting is a daily weekday post analyzing LSU football’s 12 opponents for the 2014 season. From Wisconsin (June 19) to Texas A&M (July 4), we’ll give you an early scouting report on the one dozen teams on LSU’s schedule.

Game reset
•When: 6:30 p.m., Sept. 6
•Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge
•Early spread: N/A
•Who’s before and after: vs. Wisconsin (at Houston, Texas) and vs. UL-Monroe

Sam Houston at a glance
•Coach (year): K.C. Keeler (1st)
•2013 record: 9-5 (4-3, 3rd Southland)
•2013 postseason: Lost 30-29 at Southeastern Louisiana in the second round of the FCS playoffs
•Returning starters: 13
•Preseason projection (Sporting News): 3rd in Southland; 16th nationally in FCS

SPRING STORYLINE

The replacements: Coach Willie Fritz and his 40 wins in four seasons are gone. Running back Tim Flanders and his 5,664 career rushing yards are out, and quarterback Brian Bell, the winningest QB in school history, isn’t around. The Bearkats had a lot of replacing to do in the spring, and that process is still on-going. Don King III appears to be the favorite among three competitors to replace Bell, and host of tailbacks will step into the cleats of Flanders.

BIGGEST THREAT

DE Mouf Adebo: This 225-pound sophomore made noise as a redshirt freshman last season. He was second on the team in sacks with four, and he was first with 10.5 tackles for loss. Adebo had 24 QB sacks in high school at Mansfield. He poses, maybe, the biggest threat for LSU from a squad in Sam Houston that lost many of its top offensive playmakers from last year.

WEAK SPOT

Across the board: The Bearkats lost a ton of stars from 2013. We’ve mentioned the loss of their starting quarterback and running, but Sam Houston lost its sack leader and interception leader. The Bearkats defensive line will have three new starters and the fourth is a sophomore. Sam Houston also lost two of its top three receivers, too.
