Here is a young man we are looking at. I like his game quite a bit and he has played along side of Jerrick Harding. He would be a great addition to our team.

Okay, I took the time to watch the interview. Impressive kid. Found his stats for a couple of AAU games in Georgia and he averaged 21.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2 SPG and 1.5 APP. In his interview he said that he wants to guard opposing teams best players. He said that defense is a lost art and something he takes great pride in being able to do. He wants to become a really great defender. As can be seen he can also score. Pretty neat hearing about his desire to become a writer. Weber State has a number of strong programs that will help him to achieve that goal. If I was Randy, I would lock this kid up now.

Here is the latest video on Barnes. He fits everything we are about. I love this young man.

My feelings are that if Israel wants to go where he will be loved, get good and faster exposure, prepare himself well for a life after basketball, and develop as a person and basketball player, he will end up at WSU. If he prefers a higher pressure environment, but a bigger name on his jersey, he will end up at another place. All of the schools recruiting him are good schools. He doesn't have a bad choice. However, as we all know, Weber State is a special place. Few people ever leave here without loving it.

Israel is right for us and we are right for Israel. It's that simple. :coffee:

YES!

We got our #1 guy. Wildcat fans are going to love this young man. He is perfect for our team and our community.

First 3 Star since Braxton. Good get.
Jordan Dallas was rated a three star by at least one service, and Brekkott was a four star. If Kozak had played his HS years in the USA, he would have been a 3 or 4 star player. Ratings don't seem to make it over seas.

Keep in mind that Damian was rated a two star. If Israel works as hard as Dame did, he will be a very special player.

Was talking about HS recruits, not transfers, and concensous 3 stars.

I understand. Keep in mind that Israel was rated a 3 star by two out of the three services. and not rated at all by the third. Jordan was rated a 3 star by one service and a 2 star by another. To be rated by all three you need to attend a camp put on by each of the services. Some players attend a camp from all three and some do not. Sometimes a player not attending a camp but viewed at another event by a trusted representative of a service will still get a rating. Sometimes a player will get a 2 star rating simply due to not being fully seen by enough raters, but being within the scope of a services umbrella. Damian fell into the later group. He probably should have been rated higher, but wasn't as visible as he might have been. Players from over seas are usually not visible at all. It is far from a perfect rating system. My personal opinion is that Israel probably should have been rated higher. There are some 4 star guys out there that are not as good as Israel. IMO. There are also some 2 star guys out there who are way, way under rated, like Dame. :coffee:

Dude, I wan't looking for a discussion on the rating system. Just trying to make the simple point that Barnes is the highest rated recruit since Braxton.

ESPN has him a bit higher than Braxton, Prep Hoops Kansas has him the top 2018 prospect in Kansas...and they should know!

ISRAEL Barnes is a six foot 4, true shooting guard in the class of 2018. He competes with one of the best programs in the country, defending Nike EYBL Peach Jam Champions, MoKan Elite. MoKan is known primarily for taking top midwest prospects and turning them into household, national names. Israel Barnes case is no different. As of today, he has received his 2nd NCAA Division 1 offer from the University of Texas Tech. His first coming from Tulsa University. This is only the beginning for the rising senior prospect.

AFTER seeing him on film on numerous occasions and in person at the MADEHoops #TheWarmUp event in Bentonville, Arkansas - he is at his best in catch and shoot situations. Outside of being a great athlete, defender, and play-maker, Israel is an ELITE shooter. One of the very best in the 2018 class. His mid-range game is just as good as his shot from behind the arc. His game could be described as very smooth and fluid with the ability to out muscle defenders when attacking the rim He has good size at 6'4 and a solid base

Here is the Standard piece on Israel.

Thank you Scout for finding this and SWeberCat02, you are right, he is the best recruit we have signed nationally since Braxton. One thing this recruiting article isn't hitting on, and maybe there is more, is his ability to play defense. He knows he can score, but he wants to become an elite defender. He prides himself on his defense. He is an aberration in the modern game. Most guys his age talk about their offensive prowess; yet, Barnes, who knows he can score, in interviews, usually focuses on his defensive ability. That is definitely unique. Defense is a lost art.
