The Hornets can’t even catch a break when they have the night off. ISU comes to town fresh off of an upset at home against MSU which adds even more importance to this game. The Bengals got the best of the Hornets in OT earlier in the season in Pocatello. This is a must win for the Hornets if they want to keep hope alive for a BSC Tournament berth. The Hornets will have to play tough and keep turnovers to a minimum to win this game. ISU took full advantage of a turnover happy MSU team earlier this week.

ISU has two main threats: guard Gilchrest who averages 15.0 ppg and center Busma who averages 12.2 ppg. Busma had a double-double against the Hornets in the first match-up and multiple ISU players scored double digits. Hopefully the Hornets will continue to run a full court press and give ISU problems scoring.

That was a fantastic first half! Hornets are rebounding, pressuring and hitting their shots. This is the first time in a long time I can say they were seriously entertaining to watch. Lets hope the second half looks like more of the same.

Hornets win 74-63. Naturally on a night when I have no chance at seeing the game the Hornets go 21 of 49 from the floor (42.9%) and 29 of 38 (76.3%) from the stripe. The Hornets led 31-17 at halftime and never looked back. 4 Hornets got into double digits with Duro leading the way with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Hoffman with 16 points, Dickson with 14 points and 3 steals, and TB with 11 points and 9 assists. Alpha contributed with 9 boards and 6 points. Sounded like a fun game to watch. Hornets need to keep the momentum going and snag a win on the road at PSU.

EWU smashed PSU tonight so they have 3 BSC wins while ISU and the Hornets are tied with 2 BSC wins. ISU and EWU have yet to meet this season.

Looks like they went with a small line up. Did they press? I can't remember if we've ever won 2 straight conference games under Katz. I'm locked in to missing games now. I missed 2 and they've won 2. So I won't watch again until they lose. But it seems like they finally put together a full game and playing with a lot of energy. Katz only played 8 guys. Interesting. McCarver only got 7 minutes. He plays well when I see him and I still don't know why he, Grooms and can't find minutes, but whatever works. As long as they're winning, I guess...

Give Katz credit for keeping them focused. They could have easily quit on the season and there were a couple of games I thought they had.

The Hornets came out gang busters on defense. Alpha blocked a few shots early and we made some steals that really got us going. We weren't hitting our outside jumpers early on, but we were making our inside shots and that's how we started pulling away early. Later, we hit both inside and outside.

We may have gotten the lead up to 18 points or so just before the middle point of the 2nd half. Dickson was very aggressive and playing well and I was wondering why he wasn't playing and I didn't see him anywhere for several minutes (maybe he still has the flu & he must've gone to the locker room) and didn't return until 7 1/2 to go. Idaho St was beginning to make their run then. Alpha got his 4th foul and then Dickson picked up 2 more for his fourth, so we were in trouble. Hoffman wanted a breather, but Katz made him stay in cuz Carbajal wasn't playing well.

The Bengals had the momentum with under 4 to go and it didn't look good. They had really stepped up their "D" and they were back in it. We led 61 to 55 and they had the ball and there was a wild scramble right in front of their bench with under 3 to go or so and no foul was called on us and we got the ball back and as one of the ref's passed in front of their bench, a younger Idaho St coach yelled something and the ref teed him up immediately. That coach knew he really screwed up and put his head in his hands. But their head coach, O'Brien, who has a bad temper, walked onto the court and got a "T", then he shoved an official and then another assistant had to be held back from grabbing a ref. They had to get security out there to protect the ref's. They gave O'Brien another "T" and kicked him out. That incident probably saved us, but Toles Bey, who wasn't playing very well again, made only 3 of 6 free throws.

You'd think we would've had it in the bag then, but we didn't. We were tired and had no real offense going except for making free throws and they got right back in it. Jackson threw two of those soft passes he makes, just like when he shoots frees, and they intercepted both of them, then Hoffman fouled a guy taking a three and the guy made all three. Then, Jackson fouled a guy in back court. We were fouling them with under a minute to go and we had the lead! Unbelievable. Katz was going nuts! Finally, we got the ball to Hoffman and he hit six frees in a row and it kept them at bay. We may have lost the game if not for their coaches, but we'll take it. We deserved to win.

Regarding McCarver, he got tripped by one of their guards on the way back up the court and he fell hard. When he caught back up to that guard, he cussed at him, a ref heard it, and teed him up. Katz pulled McCarver immediately. This occurred when the Bengals were really making their run and it was a mistake we couldn't afford. He put Alpha back in then and pulled McCarver, but Alpha had to back off his "D" cuz he had 4 fouls. It was nerve wracking again, but that's probably the only way we're going to win 'em. Bring on the Vikings!

GH, nice descriptive summary. You put me right in the gym. Thanks. Sounds like I missed a heck of a game. I'm still gonna chill while we're on this mini run. McCarver doing that, Katz was right to pull him. These guys have to play hard, but remember the game is always bigger than them.

I remember Joe Montana said once, 'There's all kind of ways to win a game.' That's one of the most real statements I've ever heard in sports. The key is to win the game. We did that. Now it's on to Portland.

Thanks for the recap Green Hornet. Looking at the score I would have guessed we cruised to victory. I find it hard to believe Groom got no playing time if we had guys out of gas. I wonder if he is hurt or just in Katz’ doghouse. Good thing Hoffman hit those FT’s down the stretch, it sounds like that really saved us.

Craziness involving O’Brien. I have never seen a coach assault a ref like that, now I wish I really had seen the game. Now it’s on to face a struggling PSU team.

epic meltdown by the ISU coach. should be interesting to hear what punishment the BSC hands down for making contact with a ref.

i was watching the Davis-Riverside game on Comcast (how do you follow up a 30-point league loss with 30-point league win?), and was following the scores for Big West and Sac via internet. I saw the 20-point lead and thinking that the Hornets were making a statement and would coast. happened to check later and saw the lead slip to 6, thinking 'they can't let this one slip away'. thanks for the recap.....didn't get that detail from any other source. 3 T's in one sequence...memories of my son playing AAU back in the day!
