ISU coming up this week. Thursday at ISU and Saturday at WSU.
I watched ISU a couple of times this year and have mixed feelings about them. They can be very good at times and not look too good at others. Areas where they seem to have improved since last year are at PG and Center. Their new point guard seems to be big improvement in a lot of ways. He is quick, handles the ball well, and is good at driving to the basket. He is small, but plays bigger with his athleticism. He can shoot from the outside, but IMHO, he is a bigger threat to drive. His play reminds me of Kellon MacKoy, from a few years ago. At Center, they have a kid who is strong and can back you into the paint and make a 4 to 6 foot hook shot. He is not quick and doesn't jump well, but if you let him back you down, he can hurt you. That is exactly what happened at UNCo. They didn't have anyone strong enough to stop him from backing them down. Our guys will need to get tough and not allow him to do that.
Handling those two guys will be the key to beating ISU on the defensive end. On the attack, our big men are more mobile and can hit an outside shot. I'm not sure that ISU has the personel to chase us all over the floor. I expect our big men could have really big games. It's going to be interesting.
