It is time for Sac State and Cal Poly to resume playing FB

It has been a great in-state game that goes back over 30 years with the serries tied at 15-15. It is a game that draws well at both stadiums and is budget friendly on travel. There is no reason this game should not be played. NONE. If you want to see the game, let your AD know. It is a shame that Sac State is paying out of state DII teams to come play when Cal Poly is a bus ride away. Let's make this game happen.

I agree. I have already conveyed these thoughts to Coach Sperbeck and to Dr. Wanless. Hornet fans want this game every year and there is no excuse why it shouldn't be played.

I agree as well, I love this game. I just hope that if it does become a yearly game I dont grow to despise Cal Poly like I do ucd, I dont think I have enough hate in me for two programs. :D

CP fans aren't as arrogant overall as davis fans, there are exceptions to the rule though. I guess being a sister state school all of the UC chants don't apply and they share our state funding woes.

With the CP coaching staff gutted it might be a good time to resume the contest. We need to play this first game in Sac though.

Any word as to who the last opponent will be next year?

Well for all you people out there, the Sac-Cal Poly rivalry is renewed. Sac will be traveling down to Cal Poly in week 2, you should see a finalized schedule here in a few weeks, but we will be playing Cal Poly for at least the next 2 years.

Great news.

The overall series all-time is tied at 15-15 according to the 2006 media guide, the last time the two teams met. In the media guide it states that the series lead belongs to Sac State 15-14, however the Mustangs won in 2006 to even up the series to make it the current record of 15-15.

The record of the series in SLO is 8-8.

The record in Sac is 7-7.

Heres the 2006 media guide link http://www.hornetsports.com/sports/football/mediaguides/index.asp?season_id=16

The green and gold bowl! GO HORNETS!

Did this used to be a pretty good Rivalry?
There is a lot of history between the two schools. The season Cal Poly won the 1980 DII National Championship, Sac State beat them the last regular season game. Both schools have had periods where they get on a run against the other team and win 3 or 4 in a row, but you can see over 30 games the serries is tied at 15 each.

I am looking forward to seeing the serries being renewed.

You know, CP should just join the Big SKy, they always play 2 to 3 BSC teams a year.

This year they are playing Montana, Weber State, and now Sac and maybe even Portland State.

I wouldn't mind that. They'd be immediately competitive in football and do OK in hoops and VB. Not sure about the rest of it. Likely, they'd have to join the WAC in baseball and the PCSC for softball like Sac has done, but it shouldn't be TOO big of a hit for them. I'd be interested to hear the opinions of some of their fans.

I am a football fan first and foremost so I would love to see Cal Poly join the Big Sky. I know that it will not happen though because of two things. The first is travel for non football sports is now all bus trips for conference games. Cal Poly's athletic budget is already stretched thin, I do not see them adding the expense of flying all of the athletic teams for most of their conference games. Second, baseball and softball are big sports at Cal Poly and the Big West is a great conference in those sports. The Big Sky does not sponsor those two sports.

What I would love to see is Cal Poly join as a football only member, but I know that the Big Sky only wants full members so that will never happen.
