Jalon Miller: ESPN 4 Star Recruit

He is a PF who can drive, shot from outside, play defense, and play with his back towards the basket. I don't know, but maybe we should be a little excited about Weber being on his radar!! He looks pretty damn good to me.

According to ESPN we have offered some higher star recruits. Must be really pushing Dame and playing a good game against Arizona in the tournament as part of the recruiting process. I like it. Hopefully we land one because there are some pretty good schools we are competing against on some of those lists and it would be another big win for our basketball program. The sky is the limit, literally..

I really like our chances of getting a high caliber combo big man this recruiting season. We have an exciting, athletic, young team that appears poised to make a little noise over the next several years. In addition, our coaches are proven recruiters, and with only one scholarship to give, are able to focus attention on just a few prospects. This seems to be a year like few others in the recruiting wars. Any of these guys would be welcome members of our team and community.

Someone in Texas needs to learn to coach shooting technique. Many of the kids I've watched seem to have the same poor form. It must be being taught there by someone. It certainly makes me cringe a bit. Everything else seems to be great about these kids. They are athletic and highly skilled at everything but shooting. Maybe they should send their kids to Arizona or Utah for a few weeks for a shooting camp. :yikes:

Yes, he doesn't have the greatest release on his shot, but he is a hell of a talented player who has a lot of upside and potential. Developing a players shot is far easier than developing a players drive, will, and toughness. This kid looks tough and doesn't mind banging down low (wow, that really sounds dirty, catcat go take a cold shower) and getting after in the blocks. While, simultaneously being able to extend the floor by being able to hit the outside shot and penetrating to the rim. He can create and bang.

I totally agree with you Tal. These kids are really gifted. My point is that they could be sooooo much better with a better, more consistent shot. The thing that makes me think that it is being taught that way is the number of kids who seem to share the same flaws. I think they are being taught improperly. I also think that it makes it hard to change their habits when the get to college. If they eventually have a chance to go pro, it will be even harder and may cost them in the long run. Jalon's form is not the worst I've seen. I think that he could be straitened out quite easily. His flaws are not as pronounced as Hill's. Joel's form improved over the season last year. However, the summer is the best time to work on that sort of thing.
Practice only makes sense if you're practicing with the right mechanics. Practice does not make perfect. Practice makes permanent. :coffee:
