VIKINGS PULL HUGE UPSET: Portland State stunned seventh-ranked Gonzaga 77-70 last Tuesday, the Vikings’ first win over a ranked opponent in school history. PSU entered the game 0-11 against ranked opponents since the school brought back men’s basketball during the 1996-97 season. Gonzaga entered the game with a 55-2 all-time record at the McCarthey Athletic Center. It was the first victory by a Big Sky team over a ranked opponent since Montana beat No. 20 Nevada 87-79 during the first round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament. It snapped a 31-game losing streak by Big Sky teams against ranked opponents. The streak started when Montana lost to seventh-ranked Boston College in the second round of the 2006 NCAA tournament. Big Sky teams went 0-12 against ranked teams in 2006-07, and 0-16 in 2007-08. League teams had been 0-2 against ranked teams this season prior to the win. Portland State is now 26-6 in the calendar year of 2008. The Vikings have won 15 straight home games dating back to last season. The Vikings have won 14 straight Big Sky home games, one short of the school record. PSU can tie that record on Jan. 8 against Weber State. The Vikings have beaten teams from Conference USA, The West Coast, the Big West, the Mid-American, and the Southwestern Conferences this season. The Vikings can gun for another victory against a ranked team on Monday against No. 19 Baylor of the Big 12 Conference.

• Head Coach Ken Bone is 66-43 in four seasons at Portland State, 324-161 in 17 seasons as a collegiate coach. Bone is 34-20 in Big Sky games.
• During the non-conference schedule, the Vikings beat teams from Conference USA, the West Coast Conference (twice), the Big West Conference, the Mid-American Conference and the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

I honestly swear PSU has bad luck against Weber...

PSU is 1-14 in Ogden, 8-9 in Portand vs WSU.

PSU is 0-3 vs WSU in the Big Sky Tourney.

Even last year they destroyed the Big Sky and only beat WSU by 3 in Portland and lost in Ogden.

In 2005 the other PSU Big Sky title, the Vikings split with WSU like 2008 then lost to WSU in the semifinals in Portland.

Based on the above you almost have to think PSU was lucky to not have played us last year in the conf tourney...

We did after get screwed over by the refs at the end in the semis against NAU.
