Another one of the incoming freshmen that I am really big on. As we all know, Jason is the younger brother of former Eagle RB/LB Jordan.

Jason kind of breaks the mold of the typical RB's that are recruited to come play at Eastern. I say that because he played in a HS system that ran the ball almost exclusively. So we know that he has the ability to be that kind of "every down" back that we haven't really seen in a while at EWU. And that's not a knock on any of our current backs - but you have seen the past 3-4 years that we have always been a "RB by committee" team.

Jason is somewhere around 6'1-6'2, 220, and is a physically imposing player. You can see in his highlights that he can really run people over, but he also has great lateral movement and is really tough for defenders to tackle. I also noticed how quickly he gets to the second level before anyone can even put a hand on him. Very explosive coming out of the backfield. And, like I mentioned before - nobody can tackle this guy.

I really think that if he puts the work in and stays healthy, you are looking at a future All-American type player in a few years. Took a full-ride offer from Eastern over an offer to go to Oregon as a preferred walk-on.

Impressive. Love the way he runs down hill and runs through contact. I noticed almost every play in that cutup was either a lead or an iso. I wonder how he will do running our zone scheme. He seems to have decent vision, which is a good sign, but it's a whole different animal than running straight down hill behind a fullback.

Is it football season yet?

Remember Jesse Chatman, our running back in 2000 and 2001? He was 5-8 and about 230 and averaged 7+ yds per carry and 2000 rushing yards in 2001.

His brother Jordan was a really good back early in his career before injury, 76 yards and and TD as a Freshman Vs. WSU.

Good point. Reading the blocks and choosing the correct crease to run into in our zone blocking scheme will be much different than the power system he's used to. I'm also interested in seeing how well he can block in pass protection as well as his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Both are huge in EWU's offense.

Chatman was an absolute beast. wish we could find a few more like him. Maybe Talley could be that guy.

eaglesfootballl,
I remember Jesse Chatman, he got married to one of the ladies that dispatched for me at University Police Department. Heard quite a while ago he was a Teacher at his own school. Yes, Jesse was a Beast. My Dispatcher was becoming a Nurse. Hope they are doing well. Vic Wallace

Solid and strong runner. Very hard to take down and always gains positive yardage. Jason is going to be a very good runner for us. I'm not convinced yet that he is an every down kind of back. If he manages to develop some more speed during his redshirt year, he has a very good chance. He'll be an amazing short yardage situation man for sure.

I'm actually predicting Tamarick Pierce to be a more of an every down back for us. He is coming out of high school with a similar body type to Quincy Forte, except faster! If he can learn to let plays develop (a common problem for those fast guys) and try to match Quincy's incredible work ethic, he will be a serious threat to the second level every play.

Pierce had offers from Montana, North Dakota State, Montana State, and Sacramento State.

Rjones61,
Jabari Wilson, Colin Cossette, Sam McPherson, Malcolm Williams Jr, Ashanti Kindle, will be ready for the season. All mentioned are Running Backs. Jason and Tamerick will be great additions to the Running Game.
Right now they are really working in the Strength Conditioning Area. We made a steal from Montana. Can't wait for Spring to get started. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

We are going to have a small army of running backs in the fall. I'll bet that 2-3 of them Redshirt or switch positions. I know McPherson and Malcolm Williams were banged up quite a bit this year. I wonder if one (or both) might benefit from a RS year. Both played as true Freshman out of necessity.

What about Jalen Moore?

jibjab68,
Yes, talking about Pierce, saw his film, and he could run with the best of them. I must say, I love when we take Players away from the Griz, I guess it happens to us also. That is part of the guessing Game. There are so much talent on this team and more are coming in. Vic Wallace

True that it happens both ways. I think the Griz used to win recruits over a lot more before coach Baldwin was here. Coach Baldwin and staff definitely win their share of the battles now. :D

To All,
Spoke to one of the Big Wigs at an Outstanding Game tonight, I inquired if there was any progress of the "Gateway Project". He stated it was a little hotter than before. Couldn't figure out what he meant, however, hope something get going before I leave this beautiful World, I am not getting any younger :o :o :o . Vic Wallace

To All,
Checked with one of our FB Coaches tonight at the MBB Game, he stated that Jalen Moore had given up FB. Last year he and his girl friend had their little son born, guess he has something to work and provide for. Wish the young man Well. Good Luck Jalen.

Also Jake Gall wants to be a Fireman like his dad. Again Good Luck Jake, nice seeing you play for a few years. Stay Healthy, both of you young men. Vic Wallace

Thanks, Vic. Good luck to Jalen. He was a good player for the Eags.
