JC transfers

I have really followed Weber close the past 3-4 years but for you "veteran fans" why doesn't Rahe ever recruit junior college players? I'm assuming he likes to groom a player for 4 years. I guess Bamforth was JC so maybe he does occasionally. Stu Morrill used to go hard after JC players. I'm not saying Rahe should just curious your thoughts.

He did quite heavily early on. To be honest, I am not sure the JC's lately have panned out real well. We brought it in two of the top JC kids in the nation for 14/15 season and had Randy's worst season as HC. Team chemistry was so bad that year. Baker certainly is an exception.

Off the top of my head more recent JC guys are:
Chris Golden
Jaylen Coston-Johnson
Duece Zaid
Frank Sessions
Lindsey Hughey

Look no farther than PSU to find out what will happen if you rely on JC transfers.

I'm sure we consider JCs, but it is not the way to have consistency in a program. Also, there is less talent in the JC ranks now then there was in the past. JC players often come with extra baggage and Randy doesn't like to deal with some of it. :coffee:

Right. Randy does plenty of JC recruiting, not to mention landing DI transfers like Davion Berry and Brekkott Chapman.

I agree with Olds. There is not as much talent coming from JCs as in the past. However, under Randy's tenure there have been a lot of JC guys; especially his first few years. Now, if Randy takes a JC guy, he usually tries to get the kid with 3 years instead of 2.

Since becoming the coach, Randy has brought in the following players from JC's. The number of, * ,1-5, shows their importance to the success of the program (my opinion only):
Dan Henry ***
G.B. Burningham **
Dezmon Harris ****
TJ Benson *
Jamaine Nance *
Eric Turner *
Daviin Davis ****
Kellen McCoy *****
Arturas Valeika ****
Brody Van Brokliln ***
Tyler Billings ***
Marcus Carson *
Nick Hanson ****
Marco Ramos **
Matt Washington **
Lindsey Hughey ****
Josh Noble **
Scott Bamforth *****
Franklin Session ***
Duce Zaid **
Royce Williams **
Wayne Bradford *
Jordan Rex *
Chris Golden **
Jaylen Johnson-Coston **
Dusty Baker ***

Just for kicks and giggles, transfers:
Josh Cottle *
Danny Johnson *
BJ Porter **
Frank Otis "Mook" ****
Davion Berry *****
Grant Jones *

I believe that we will have some JC transfers in the future Not many and they will have to fit a specific need, like Dusty or Scottie have done. I think that it is safe to say that a player, anywhere, who can help the program will not be turned away. However, and this is a big however, we all know that Randy will not take anyone if the baggage is too heavy. That alone may eliminate 80% of the JC kids. Just sayin'.

I should have prefaced it by saying that I was only including D1 talent playing at a JC. There is a reason they are at a JC and not in a D1 program. Grades, personality, work ethic, social issues, legal issues, and the like are common. Of course, players should get a second chance, and usually do. Some JC kids are just late bloomers and make themselves into D1 talent, but the majority of D1 talent at JCs are there because of issues. Some programs are better at dealing with those issues than others and if the talent is great enough, most programs would consider dealing with it. :coffee:
