Looks like Jerry Bovee is moving on to a position with Utah State. Good luck to him.

Can't say I'm that sad about this. He did some good things, including some good hires like Hill and Amicone and helping improve facilities, but he was much too complacent in other areas. But best of luck to him. He's an Aggie at heart anyway. I'm hoping they hire someone from outside the University. Someone that will be willing to shake things up a bit and put more pressure on Rahe. Too bad the new AD will be saddled with Rahe's contract.

I have mixed feelings as well. Hoping they find a good candidate. I would prefer they hire someone who has Weber State ties and previous AD experience. Ken Beazer was a finalist for the position previously and served as the AD at SUU. Not sure he is interested, but he did a great job for SUU.

Personally, I'll be sad to see Jerry go. I give him a lot of guff, but at the end of the day he is someone I consider to be a friend. I think he is a great guy and someone who really cares about the academic process and how it ultimately helps student-athletes. Family is extremely important to him and that attitude was brought to the athletics program. He was seen as a type of father figure for a lot of our athletes. Under his leadership our APR improved substantially and athletes graduated. To me, that is the most important priority and it has been achieved. That was his top achievement. Others included facilities, keeping good coaches at Weber State, improving communication and information, and finally keeping the Cats in the black.

He told me once a few years back that Weber won't be able to do much without facilities and that one of his top priorities was to build and improve the athletic facilities here at Weber State. Under his watch the Wildcats have improved the Dee, softball stadium, Stewart Stadium, tennis courts, soccer field, and has added a nice indoor facility with a great weight area, and finally, a really awesome academic center. There are a lot of plans in place for the facilities to be improved or added. A lot of that has happened because of Jerry's leadership.

Does he has weaknesses, of course. We all do. But, he tried and gave it his best for the most part. It'll be interesting to see who applies for this open position and who the interim might be. I'm guessing Amy Crosbie will be given the reigns for the interim and, believe she deserves the shot at leading athletics.

Ok. You just lost all credibility. Beazer is a complete and total joke. Why would anyone hire a man that got fired by an inferior school and athletic program. He did a horrible job there..... there is nothing that said he did a good job there. If you think Beazer is a better AD than Bovee than you need your head examined.

Pretty sure my credibility will survive your anonymous post.

I stand by my opinion. Beazer took SUU from a second rate athletics program to a program that has credibility in the conference. Community support in Cedar City was non-existent before he was the AD. Pretty sure he was not fired or forced out, but neither of us were in the room when that decision was made.

Bovee did some good things. We have much improved our facilities under his leadership. He also became very complacent. He allowed the basketball program under Rahe to slip significantly. He hired coach Hill but he also hired JLS and Sears. Wish him nothing but the best. But I am excited to see where the next AD takes Weber.

Makes sense why he was fired.... I know alot of athletic programs that fire their AD when they do a good job. I get you are excited about what a new AD. I'd like to think Weber can do better than Beazer.

I'm sure there will be a lot of good candidates, both inside and outside of WSU's circle.

Jerry has been great and I wish him nothing but the best.

Only had a couple of run ins with Bovee and each time was a good experience for me. Never fully felt he was helping Wildcat Athletics fulfill its total potential, but at the same, under him Wildcat Athletics has consistently been progressing and growing. Sometimes good development is done best at a consistent pace. Under Bovee we have been stable and consistent. If anything, I feel that is a positive. Utah State finally saw that and decided to bring him up. Good for him and I wish him luck! Thanks for all that you did for Wildcat Country Mr. Bovee.
