Joel Bolomboy

I got the chance to chat with a person in the know about Joel yesterday. I got a lot of great information about this kid.

Weber has been recruiting Joel since he was a sophmore. New Mexico jumped on at the end of his junior year and Clemson at the start of the summer. His stock kinda exploded this summer during the AAU circuits. He is a tough nosed player who does all of the little things that helps a team to succeed. Even though his offensive numbers don't appear to being the strongest, this kid can score in a number of ways, even though he is a pure PF. However, he is a defensive monster and can set some mean picks. I'm going to borrow a phrase from Wildcat 100...HE IS NASTY at setting picks and closing down the paint.

He is someone the program hasn't really ever had. A really athletic big, who is long, and can run the floor really well. The closest, of course, have been Patten and Art since Rahe has been the coach here. Bolomboy was a huge get for the Cats. This kid has a lot of upside who can develop into being a premier Big Sky player. Look to see him playing right away for the Cats next Fall.

offers from New Mexico, Fresno St., La. Tech, Missouri State, and others

canceled visits to New Mexico, and Clemson after committing to WSU on Tuesday

I like this kid

i liked this part:

While other schools wanted him to redshirt, the Wildcats' staff won Bolomboy over with the chance to play as a freshman. He took an unofficial trip to Missouri State, but decided on Weber State after an official visit to the Ogden campus Sept. 2-4.

"I just felt in the right place. Next week I was supposed to go to visit New Mexico, then visit Clemson, but I didn't want to," he said.

Bolomboy played with his future teammates in an open gym session during his visit to WSU.

"I liked them a lot and they liked me. The relationship felt right. Everybody was telling me how when I go visit (a school), I'll know it's the right place because I'll have a feeling inside me. I knew that was the right place."

He also believes Weber State coach Randy Rahe and his staff will help him grow as a player.

"I really think they can develop me, get me to be the best I can be so I"ll have a chance to play after college."

This kid reminds me a lot of Tanaka Beard, when he was in HS. A little time in the wieght room and a good diet and that is exactly what you have. I am impressed with his soft hands, in trafic and on the move. The plus side is enormous with this kid.

We seem to have a good pipline with these texas kids lately. I say, keep bringing them. If Joel lived in Utah, he may have been the best player in the state. He plays with, and against some of the best tallent in the country. I think he is a diamond in the rough.

Lets keep that pipeline from Texas flowing

It will be nice to have an spring around the basket. Our bigs lately have been good but not great in the hops department. It will keep the guards thinking about driving inside wondering if their shot is going into the 3rd row.

Very nice addition for Weber. He seems raw offensively for sure, but his highlight tape his impressive on the defensive end. Very long, athletic, quick off his feet... seems like a bit of a late bloomer (from reading articles a lot of schools didn't start recruiting til late in his junior year) so he could have a lot of improving left to do.

Word is that, on his visit, He was hitting shots from all over the floor and in a variety of ways. He was hitting the 16' to 17'' jumper with relative ease and made a few 3 pointers as well. A lot of his offensive skills seemed to develop over the summer. That, and the fact that he is now over 6'8'' and still growing, is probably why everone jumped in on him this summer. He is a much better prospect than a lot of people might realise.

Also nice is that he will definitely fill a need for Weber, with Mahoney gone and Bullinger gone. They will be in need of some depth down low, and Bolomboy will provide that. And who knows, he could push for a starting gig immediately. I am excited to see what he can do in the Big Sky.
