Over on egriz, they are worried about signing a big men to match up with Bolomboy. Teams will need to recruit around him, recruiting to match up with his length and athletic abilities. How will Joel rank amongst the greats at WSU? Can he follow Damian and make it to the NBA? Has Damian opened some doors for him? How long until NBA scouts are a regular occurrence watching him play? I think he is the next superstar from WSU/Ogden...

I think Joel is going to be scary good next year and great the years following. He will develope a nice post move and become lock down on defense. With Trez and him in the paint, not too many teams will be able to match up.

Joel is going to be good. However, he is a long way from being ready for the NBA. This year's team is still going to be run through Tres and Berry. NBA scouts will be at many of our games, primarily to watch those two. Joel is a strong player at that position. However, I think that the real strength of that position is our depth. We have 4 guys who can all play. Everyone has the luxury of being able to play very aggressively when they are in the game. The same is true of everyone on our team. Depth won us a lot of games last year and that will be true this year.

I'm excited for this years team. We will be more athletic, play a higher pressure defense, and play even faster than last year. It's all good, baby!

UM best be worried about recruiting a big period, and at this point in the Spring, I don't think they will be getting a big that can compare to Max Jacobsen let along Joel Bolomboy. Yet, it all depends on Bolomboy's development this summer. He has a lot of potential. This past season he had some great moments where we were able to see his potential. No matter, he is still very raw, and has a ways to go. Will he get there? Oh yeah. He only got better as the season went on, and he was doing things that a freshman big usually aren't apt at being able to do; especially in the Big Sky. Once he is able to harness his skill and speed and develop his offensive game more. YIKES!! The Sky better worry. And with Tres being on the floor with Berry, Wheels, and Richardson...Heaven help the rest of the Sky.

One thing the Sky should worry about, is that Weber doesn't lose anyone in the frontcourt, and that the Cats are adding depth in the post with the additions of Josh Fuller and Kyndahl Hill. Both could play either the 3 or 4. They can shot, drive, play lock down defense and have a combination of on ball skill sets. Funny...they are starting to remind me of SMU's Pony Express (Dickerson and James). Even though they are very different in their styles of play, they both bring toughness and are physical guys. Hill got to guard and learn from Mook this past season, which I feel has really helped him develop and prepare him for this upcoming season. Whereas, Fuller is a lot like Bull, except bigger and more mobile. These guys are competitors who will chase every ball.

For UM, Martin looked pretty good in the championship game, and I feel he will continue to improve and get better. Will he be as good as Ward or Qvale? I don't think so, but he is a different style of center. He isn't a shooter like Ward and he won't ever be the defender Qvale was, but he will be a decent mix. He will be able to hit the 15' and be a solid defender. That is all you can really ask of your bigs. A lot like Trevor Morris. I feel that Tinkle does a great job of getting the most out of his bigs. I really thought that Jake Wiley would be a bit better, but he is a talented kid and the hope is that he can really develop over the summer. But the writing's on the wall. Coleman shouldn't be expected to play the 4, Wiley really isn't a 4, and we know that Weisner isn't a 4. Weisner, has the height, but he isn't big enough to contend with the 4's in our league and regrettably for him even though he is a great shooter (he might be the best now that Bamforth and Roger's have graduated) he isn't physical enough to play in the paint, nor is he quick enough to guard other 3's in the league, which in the Sky usually ends up being another guard. Hutchinson is a wild card. He seems lost a lot of the time when he is on the floor but does show flashes of ability. Maybe with the emphasis on him rather than Ward he will develop into the player the Grizz need him to be.

I think Bolomboy is a long way from being an NBA prospect. Do keep in mind the competition he is up against. That said, I have no doubt he will be an outstanding center/power forward in the Big Sky. I look for him to dominate the paint for us for the next 3 years. Would love to see him become a 75% guy from the line.

What we saw out of Joel, early in the season, was a player who was thinking more than playing. That often happens to new players in our system. There is a lot to learn. As the season whent on, what we saw was a player thinking less and playing more. It isn't an easy process for one position, let alone two. The real progress will be when it is all second nature to him and he can play freely. When that happens, he will play at a much higher level. We have only seen a little of what he can do. Between him and the coaches, he will get there. With Fuller and Fulton behind him, that position is rock solid. It also frees up Hill to concentrate fully on developing as a 3. Both Hill and Bolomboy in the game at the same time would be a great defensive tandom at forward. We will still be better, offensively, with Berry at the 3 or 2. I would love to see us play big on occasion, with Berry, Hill, Bolomboy, and Tresnak in the game at the same time. Berry can play at point, it's just that you want him as the finisher more than the facilitator. :coffee:

Joel might not make it to the NBA, but he will be a huge impact player for the Cats. Remember at this time last year, we all thought that Gelaun would be a headed to the NBA too. Not trying to smash Wheels, he did have a very untimely injury that definitely affected his development and he was thrown into a new position this year, he just didn't wow us like he did when he was a fresh. I'm pretty sure he will be a lot better this fall and I think the same thing about Joel. Joel will be getting a lot of mins this fall at either the 4 or 5. It is really nice knowing that the Cats have so many options on the bench.
