Weber hasn't had a 1,000 yard rusher since Trevyn Smith had 1,001 in 2009. Davis has 499 yards in 3 games and his average of 166.3 yards per game currently leads the nation. The school record for rushing yards in a season is 1,649 by Nick Chournos in 2003. Chournos played in 12 games that season. At his current pace Davis would have 1,663 yards in 10 games, before any playoff games. But it will be difficult to continue averaging 166 yards a game. Still, with any playoff games Davis could have a chance of becoming the school's all-time season rushing leader. Smith is the school's career rushing leader with 5,029 yards. Davis would have to average 1,257+ a season to pass Smith.

No offense to Josh, I really hope he breaks the record later in his career. If he continues to carry the ball as often as he has, I think the following will be true:

  • Treshawn Garrett does not return or is ineffective when he does.
  • We are still struggling to establish a passing game and are pretty one dimensional on offense.
  • He will end up injured.

He had 30 carries against UNC and Hill said after the game that that is too many carries. And I don't like seeing him return punts. I'm glad they switched that up after he struggled and hope they don't go back to him. I agree with what you've said and with what Coach Hill said. But, without much of a passing game, he has become the best, and sometimes the only, option. Without him rushing 30 times Weber probably doesn't win that game. Garrett should be back next game and that should help some. Still, need to get the passing game going.

I don't see Davis continuing to average 100+ this season. He will still carry the rock a lot, but with Garrett being healthy the offense will have additional weapons available, and Coach will use them. Last year we had three guys over 500 by the end of the season (two over 700 each) and ended up with 2512 total yards gained rushing. Garrett, Cantwell, Smith, and Jones; by the end, were getting carries in games. Those are fairly impressive numbers and I'm hopeful that we will see those numbers again. However, I hope Coach sees how efficient Davis has been running the ball and will only get better. Garrett is great having available and is a stud, but Davis has been amazing the past three weeks. Having both will make us a lot more dangerous and better. As for the record, when Chournos broke the record he was virtually the only option that team had offensively. Smith was just a beast playing Mac ball for teams that were crazy good offensively. Also, he is very lucky he never got injured.

Started this topic to discuss Davis' chances at Weber's all-time rushing title. Davis had 1,362 rushing yards this season and Trevyn Smith had 1,129 rushing yards his Freshman season.
