The Cardinals still have 22 roster moves left next week to get down to the 53 mandated for the start of the regular season.
But the first round of moves Monday, to get to the 75 required this week -- they have 77 on the roster, still needing two more moves by Tuesday -- also carried some storylines.
With still a preseason game left, the Cardinals made their decision on long snapper, cutting rookie Danny Dillon in favor of Kam Canaday. Another move came with the need to place veteran cornerback Mike

Jenkins, who tore his right ACL against the Texans Sunday on a non-contact play, on season-ending injured reserve.
“He had the chance to be the No. 2 corner,” coach Bruce Arians said.
Instead, that number has been whittled down to rookie Brandon Williams and veteran Justin Bethel, although the Jenkins’ injury greatly increases the chance Cariel Brooks makes the final roster as well as a fourth cornerback and special teamer.
As for Canaday, Arians said it was close but Canaday had an edge in both speed and accuracy
“They both battled it out extremely hard,” Arians said. “We were really confident in both of them.”
The full list of roster moves the Cardinals made to get down to 77:
-- Guard Jake Bernstein
-- Wide receiver Amir Carlisle
-- Tight end Gerald Christian
-- Tackle Clay DeBord
-- Long snapper Daniel Dillon
-- Defensive tackle Iosia Iosia
-- Cornerback Asa Jackson
-- Wide receiver Franky Okafor
-- Cornerback Shaun Prater
-- Punter Garrett Swanson
-- Safety Tyrequek Zimmerman
-- QB Jake Coker (knee) was waived-injured, and CB Mike Jenkins was put on IR.
The Cardinals play Thursday and are expected to have their initial roster of 53 over the weekend.
“These (cuts) were fairly easy compared to what Friday will be like,” Arians said.

Ex-Portland State LS Kamaron Canaday gets second chance, earns roster spot with Pittsburgh Steelers

http://www.oregonlive.com/nfl/index.ssf/2017/09/ex-portland_state_ls_kamaron_c.html

Former Portland State Vikings football player Kamaron Canaday will be getting a second chance to prove himself in the NFL.
Canaday earned a spot on the Pittsburgh Steelers 53-man roster as the team's long snapper after NFL teams trimmed their rosters down to the 53-man limit during the weekend. Canaday is the only long snapper listed on the team's official roster, likely meaning he'll get an opportunity to solidify his status during the regular season.
Canaday originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2016 and entered the regular season as the team's long snapper. However, Canaday struggled and committed two bad errors during his first three games during the 2016 season.
Canaday's low snap on potential game-winning field goal resulted in the Cardinals 23-21 loss to New England in Week 1. Canaday's high and wide snap on a field goal try slipped through holder's Drew Butler's hands and Buffalo safety Aaron Williams returned the fumble 53 yards for a touchdown in the 33-18 loss to the Bills in Week 3. Canaday was cut two days later.
Canaday wasn't the only local player to earn a roster spot after teams trimmed their rosters to the mandatory 53-player limit during the weekend.

Former David Douglas High School star linebacker Samson Ebukam won a roster spot with the Los Angeles Rams. Ebukam was selected in the fourth round (No. 125) of the 2017 NFL draft. Former Milwaukie High School wide receiver Kendrick Bourne earned a roster spot with the San Francisco 49ers. Bourne signed as an undrafted free agent.

Former Portland State star cornerback Xavier Coleman was signed to the New York Jets practice squad. Detroit Lions wide receiver Jace Billingsley, who played at Eastern Oregon University in 2015, was signed to the Lions practice squad to begin the 2017 season.

Former small college and high schools with ties to Oregon who were cut included former Portland State offensive linemen Cornelius Edison and Cam Keizur (Atlanta Falcons).

Canaday signed; Nix released

For the past three years Kameron Canaday has consistently done a job that doesn't get a lot of attention. And he has done it without fail.
That is why the long snapper, who was a restricted free agent, was signed to a two-year contract.
Canaday signed with the Steelers in February 2017, but was released on May 5 after the team drafted Colin Holba in the sixth-round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was re-signed on May 30, and then won the job in the preseason and training camp and has been the team's long snapper since.
Canaday was originally signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Portland State in 2016. He played in the first three games of the season for the Cardinals in 2016, before being released.
That isn't the only move the team made as they also terminated the contract of fullback Roosevelt Nix.

Nix, who entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Atlanta Falcons in 2014, has been with the Steelers since the 2015 season. Nix played in 60 games over five seasons, starting 10 of them. He was named to the 2018 Pro Bowl after being one of the lead blockers for Le'Veon Bell in the Steelers' ground game. Nix, who was used heavily on special teams throughout his career, played in only three games in 2019 while dealing with injuries.
