I don't believe this will happen. All of the speculation I've heard has focused on a promotion for associate head coach Ron Verlin. Of course, I'm the contrarian in the bunch, pushing for a promotion for assistant coach Adam Jacobsen, who played for outgoing head coach Bob Thomason back in the late '90s, the time I was at UOP "trying" to play football.

Others considered in the rumor wire have been UC Santa Barbara coach Dan Monson (considered HIGHLY unlikely) and recently fired UCLA coach Ben Howland. But given the rumors swirling about WHY Howland was given the heave-ho, they'd probably do better to go after perennial thorn-in-the-Tigers'-side Jerry Tarkanian, despite the clear risk of probation. Apparently, current UCLA players were telling recruits to avoid UCLA. That's not a good thing....

Monson is at LBSU, not UCSB.
 
You guys are right, of course, though why TWO of you had to gang up on me boggles the mind.

Former Manure Pile head man Bob Williams is at UCSB, and shows no signs of moving on, though some Gaucho fans seem to want him to. The Tiger speculation was on Monson, however.
 
UOP hasn't "officially" announced it yet (probably so as not to detract from the incredible season the girls hoops team is having: Sweet 16 of the WNIT with another home game vs. Utah after taking out a VERY dirty Arkansas-Little Rock team at home and beating Washington on the road), but the UOP board is buzzing (so to speak) about an article in the Record stating that associate head coach Ron Verlin has in fact been promoted to head coach.

I am NOT happy about this move, but the rest of that board is excited beyond all belief.

Well that’s a relief for us Hornet fans. I am a little surprised Pacific didn’t go out on a short limb and hire Katz, who has a 29.2% (42-102 (21-63 BSC)) winning percentage during his 5 years in the D-1 ranks. We really dodged a bullet here.
 
UOP has scheduled a presser tomorrow at 10 am to announce the new head coach. I'm told from Hornet sources that Coach Katz met with the Sac players at lunch today and that he will indeed be the new UOP coach!

Also, Garrity's dad played at UOP and could possibly follow Katz and use his redshirt year.

UOP introduced Verlin as HC over my strenuous objections last week. Naturally, the UOP boards are ecstatic over the choice....
