Kellen McCoy new assistant

Randy was tired of being the shortest person on the court. But seriously, good move to bring Kellen in, IMO. It's always good to see former players still involved in the program.

Dang it!

I was passed over yet again. My resume clearly stated that I was willing to start out as the water boy. Hmmmm..., maybe asking for minimum wage was just too much. Next time I'll ask for peanuts, actual peanuts.

Congratulations to Kellen. I think he is going to be great. He has the right stuff to be very successful. Now, let's go out and get us some 4 star studs. :thumb: :thumb:

It's a nice pick up in McCoy, however, we already have coaches who have been guards. We need someone to help develop our bigs. I liked the idea of Andy Jensen, but I was hoping for David Patten to help out down low. Maybe Patrick Danley... Oh we'll...

I think we have had good success in outsourcing our big man development. We have been utilizing some big man camps and probably will continue with that. Also, I don't think it takes a big man to coach bigs. It's still all about basic basketball skills, athletic ability and desire. The guys mentioned may or may not be good coaches. To me, a good coach must possess the 'coaches eye'. Roughly interpreted, that means that they have the ability to spot the small things that a player is doing that negatively or positively effect their game, and then know what to do to enhance or correct it. It sounds simple, but believe me, 8 out of 10 coaches don't have what it takes. Randy has what it takes and he tries to get coaches around him that have this ability as well. It really doesn't matter what your size is.

With Randy, coaching ability is important, but just as important is honesty and loyalty.
All of their jobs depend on how each member of the staff is doing theirs. Kellen will be involved in all aspects of coaching, including recruiting. His big smile and infectious personality will go a long way to help the organization succeed. I haven't seen it at work yet, but I have heard that he has the 'coaches eye'. Kellen was a leader as a player and will use that same enthusiasm and drive to be a great coach. :thumb: :thumb:
