Lack of a Killer Instinct

This program has never had it and to me it's what has kept the team from making the next step (football IQ a close second). They do not know how to put a team away or win a close game.

Every year, Sac State fans have to suffer through these gut wrenching losses in which the team barfs up a huge lead or comes soooo close to a ranked team, only to falter at the end. Most other programs suffer these type of losses once or twice a decade...we get it every year like clockwork, sometimes two or three occasions per season. I'm not sure how to overcome it, but it's in the program's DNA, going back to Volek and even Mattos some. Until it is overcome, this team will continue to go 6-6 every year.

agree.

everything was going right tonight

and we have all seen so much going right and yet it all goes wrong at the end.

It is baffeling.

We are always so , so close to beating the best and the worst of opponents.

We are the school that other schools have amazing and improbable wins against.

Just do not get it .

There's is something very wrong when the QB and TB fight fight each other to keep the ball. The QB says play action, the TB says hand off. Coaching and team effort are errant.

I agree. A good example of the knockout punch is what happened to us at ASU. Did you notice they never let up. That is what good teams do, they keep the foot on the gas regardless of where they are in the game. The insanity is this coach has gone soft right after getting a lead going back 5 years. And yet we keep giving him a new contract, and wonder why things never change.

The lack of killer instinct directly comes back to the offensive coaches. Players are fed up and want A new Coaching staff to come in next year with a killer attitude. I've heard these meltdowns have been happening for years. Running up the middle on 2nd and 3rd and long at the start of the 4th qtr is unacceptable. Having a philosophy of shutting things down once you go up by 2 scores is for losers. This team has the talent to be 5-2 right now and frankly should be. I feel sorry for the players, its a shame.

Agree with you stingersup... Play every game like its CU or OSU... I normally don't blame the staff, but the talent is there, we should be 5-2...
