LB Folsom selected by the Miami Dolphins

With pick 214, my Miami Dolphins took J.D. Folsom. Yet again, another year with a Wildcat going in the draft. Can many other BSC or even FCS schools boast this? I really don't know, I'm just curious.

This is so cool that it makes me want to sing a song. Let me just get out this banjo here .... Okay now. 1, and a 2, and a 3: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlMnfHqPefY :D

I may have missed some, but by my count there were 15 players from the Football Championship Subdivision selected in the 2009 NFL Draft:

Big Sky Conference:
LB J.D. Folsom, Weber State, Round 7

Big South Conference:
Rashad Jennings, Liberty College R7

Colonial Athletic Conference:
CB Derek Cox, William & Mary R3
DE Lawrence Sidbury, 2008 FCS National Champion Richmond Spiders R4

Gateway (Missouri Valley):
LB Jason Williams, Western Illinois R5

Great West:
WR Ramses Barden, Cal Poly R3
FS Nick Schommer, NDSU R7

MEAC:
CB Don Carey, Norfolk State R4

Northeast:
TE John Nalbone, Monmouth R5

Ohio Valley:
RB Javarris Williams, Tennessee State R7

Southern:
CB William Middleton, Furman R2

Southland:
QB Rhett Bomar, Sam Houston State R3
WR Dominique Edison, Stephen F. Austin R6
WR Quinten Lawrence, McNeese State R6
CB Lardarius Webb, Nicholls State R3

An equal or greater number of FCS players are legitimate free agent prospects, including from the Big Sky Conference, Weber State fullback Marcus Mailei, Northern Arizona kicker Robbie Dehaze, Sac State linebacker Cyrus Mulitalo, Portland State linebacker Andy Schantz and Montana safety Colt Anderson (corrected).

No players were selected from the Ivy, Patriot, Pioneer or SWAC conferences of the FCS.

The Idaho Statesman had a nice little story about J.D.

http://www.idahostatesman.com/sports/story/750952.html

There must be something in the water in Salmon, Idaho. The high school only has something like 300 students, yet within the last few years there have been some great athletes coming out of there. Besides J.D. Folsom, David Schroeder and Michele Grohs also are from Salmon (and they did a nice job for ISU in basketball within recent years).

Not knowing a whole lot about FCS and Big Sky football. I have a question or 2.

Do other teams in our conf normally get players drafted or are our 4 players in 4 yrs unusua for the Big Sky?

What is a normal year for the Big Sky? Not just players signed but just the draft.

A nice summary of Football Championship Subdivision players from the Class of 2009 either getting drafted or signing a professional contract:
