First and foremost, Eastern needs to make a commitment to it's football program. The admin has left the athletic programs flapping in the wind for too long, and you can tell it's taking a toll on everyone. Eastern is one of only 3 teams to win a National Championship in the last decade. James Madison and North Dakota State are the others; can you imagine one of those programs allowing talk of cutting football to circulate? This piece from our admin is completely embarrassing. Give the program some clarity on the future; that's what leaders do. If cost cutting in areas is required, so be it, but make sure everyone understands the university is invested in the program's success. C'mon Hickey, you weren't hired to run this thing into the ground.

Second, what Eastern is doing defensively isn't working. Hell, it isn't even close to working. I don't have a lot of confidence that they guys running the defense know how to change it. We need some new ideas. I doubt Eastern has the money to go on a big search, but find someone among those coaches who has some ideas of how to fix it and let them make the changes they need.

Third, try to make the transfer portal work in our favor for once. The defense only has a handful of players capable of getting to where they need to go. Especially up front, Eastern is too small, too slow, and nowhere near physically tough enough. There are always too many injuries and too many of the same guys missing game after game. Find some guys that are built for this.

Not much to add, just that I very much agree with this. Why has the Athletic Department not voiced at least a commitment to athletics. From tweets from a couple of our current coaches in other athletic programs at EWU the mood and temperature is not right. It is not what it was two or three years ago. The constant doubt is troubling and taking its toll. For athletes, the transfer window is now always open, we need to show a commitment to the program and our kids so that they can make a continued commitment to EWU.
