I've got to apologize to all the forum members...I haven't been doing a very good job keeping up with the recruitment seen as of late. Be sure though to keep your eyes out for a thorough write up, on Wildcat Wall, of the Big Sky Men's 2010 recruits and how they will impact the Sky. I think the talent coming into the Sky is the best since the mid 90s or even the early 80s.
Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to discuss 2011. From what I've read over the past couple of days, Weber might be losing one of its top recruits to a PAC-10 team. Collin Woods went on an unofficial visit to ASU this past week, and according to rivals it went really well. To be honest, I could care less what rivals says. It is a good place to find out about perspective talent, but isn't very thorough. No matter, ASU is going to be very tough to beat. The other schools...I have no doubt in my mind that Woods would decide on Weber over all the rest. But PAC-10 and in your backyard? Kinda hard!! No matter, I still think Weber has a shoot.
As for the other recruits. Its all about What will Weber need after this season. Its kinda hard to guage that without even seeing the team play, but I'll try. In my opinion, the Wizard might be looking for a couple of guards (combo and PG), a wing, and a couple of Bigs (true PF most likely). From what I've seen...I think Weber might score a huge steal in Jordan Baker. If he doesn't break his wrist last december, Weber doesn't have a chance. But by showing him that we were still interested even after his injury says a lot about Weber's faith in him and the talent that he has. Right now, he is destroying the spring ball circuit. As for TJ Taylor, I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Weber gets him, then that would be another reason to praise Damian Lillard. Personally, I think Weber is looking at a couple of JC's and a few other high schoolers that we don't know about.
I'd love a 6-6/6-7 athletic wing, much like Daviin. There is a kid up at Box Elder, Mecham, that might fit into this roll, but he is a bit undersized for a traditional wing, but would fit into Rahe's system well. Also, he is a 3pt master.
As for the Bigs...there is a lot of talk going on. I think Tresnak, Hajak, and Fulton are going to be huge players for Weber, but a little secruity never hurt anyone. Rahe is tapping the Oakland pipeline again, and looking at Dean Keane (sp?). Weber hasn't offerred him yet, but he is looking really good. Also, Weber has a couple of Utah players being looked at. Smuison from Springville High and a kid out of Murray (David Collette). Both of these kids are over 6-8 and could end up in the 6-9/6-10 range. Oh, we can't forget about 6-10 Minco center Kevin Jergensmeier. I wouldn't doubt if Rahe is trying to crack into the Lone Peak group and go after another Hamilton. No matter, there are plenty of Bigs on the Wizards radar.
For the moment this is all I've got on possible recruits. This class will need some great guards in it. Since Hughey will be gone and Damian will be entering his senior year. I really think Richardson and Bamforth will be legit. Both of them were under-recruited, especially Richardson, since his high school team wasn't one of the better ones. Yet, without him, that team would have been among the worst in the state and he made them better than they were. That says a lot about him, his talent level and leadership skills. No matter, two guards, a wing, and two bigs, with one being a true PF would be a class that would keep Weber moving in the right direction.
