Looking Way Off Into the Future

This years team is going to be really good, and fun to watch. The 2015/2016 version will be something special, with 3 seniors in Bolomboy, Golden, and Johnson-Coston.

We have the nucleus to be a very strong team after that, but will need to recruit well next year to replace those three seniors for the 2016/2017 season. between now and next year our needs could change more than once. On the surface, we would need to have at least one big and one wing in that class. However, a lot will be determined by how the young guys in our program develop.

Any way I look at it, it looks good. I really like the direction the program is taking. Seems to me like we get better, in some way, every year with this coaching staff. Where they started out from, and where they seem to be headed, is light years apart. These are truly fun times. :coffee:

Agreed!! There is a lot to look forward to being a Weber State fan. The team is talented, young, and deep. Really the Cats will lose Hajek, but could get a lot stronger with the additions and the current players. I love how much better the players are coming into the program and how it is making the team that much stronger. Lots to be excited about!

One of the things that is encouraging to me is that we have been so very, very close on some 4 star recruits over the past few years. I feel that if we continue to improve and make a little run into the NCAA tournament in the next few years, we will begin to have a better and better chance at that level of player. Everyone has seen what we can do with 2 & 3 star recruits. We develop them into what would have been a 4 star guy. I believe that we could make a 4 star guy into a 5 star, with the way we develop players. As long as we keep going after some of these high major recruits, I believe that we will start to get some of them. Momentum is an awesome thing to see. :coffee:

There you go again oldrunner......If you and the coaches (WE) could get a 5 star guy, you and the coaches (WE) could make the world forget Michael Jordan....lol

Lay off him Sacstateman. He is right. WE ARE WEBER and we have been dam close on some high level talent. Anytime a Big Sky school is in the final 3 with major power schools it is a success. Last year we nearly had Omar Sherman and Juan Anderson. I swear there is a few schools that wait to see who we offer early on and then swoop in near the end. I agree that we are going to get a 4 star sooner or later.

You cannot argue that we develop talent better than anyone. Who was the last Sac State player to even make the D-League?

I think that I will stand by the 'WE' thing, sacstatesman. Here at WSU the community is a big part of the program. We may not actually recruit or develop the players, but we contribute greatly to the overall success of the program. Over the years we have donated money to build the best facility in the BSC, we have donated money to the scholarship fund such that all athletic scholarships are paid out of those donations, We have donated money to be used for travel expenses on recruiting trips, and we have attended basketball games at one of the highest rates in the western States. We take ownership of our program.

It is definitely a 'WE' thing.

"We may not actually recruit or develop the players" Thanks for the admission oldrunner, for awhile I was looking for your church league team to make the NBA Finals....lol....You guys definitely have the best facilities, The Dee is actually better than most of the Pac 12 facilities. I read your board because you guys are the most active of the Big Sky basketball fans. When I see something that I think is over the top I point it out. I like to see fans be fans but repeated references as if you have direct responsibility for the performance of players is over the top. When WE is used as a reference to backers of the program I don't think that is over the top but when it implies direct responsibility for a players performance I feel that is fair game. I wish Sac's board was as active as yours but we don't have the fan base you guys enjoy. Anyway I hope this explains some of my comments. Looking forward to this season and what it brings.

I can respect that point of view. I might not fully agree with it, but I can respect it. I can't speak for everyone on the forum, but I enjoy reading other fans opinions and talking to them about basketball and the Big Sky. So definitely stick around and keep posting. :thumb: As you can see you aren't the only one. Mt. Jack, Bengal Vistor, George Hayduke, and a handful of other like to stop by and post.

:+1:
I also enjoy most of the visitors who post on our board and you are welcome anytime sacstatesman. I have always been pulling for Sac. St. to turn the corner with their program and facilities, and it looks like some of that is starting to happen now. Sacramento is a great city and has the potential to grow a really special program. I feel that if you keep pushing, it will get done. If they can do it at UM, you can certainly do it in Sacramento. I have been around and with WSU basketball since Dick Motta was coach, so I may still use the 'We' from time to time, even though it is a little presumptuous. :kisswink:

By the way, sacstatesman, my church team did play against a team that had Willy Sojourner on it. It was in a 3 on 3 tournament, and as I recall they kicked our butts pretty good. I did make a three over Willy though.

Sac..... Can't say I disagree with you! I love everyone's enthusiasm...... But the "we" when it comes to recruiting and player development it makes you wonder.....

Got to say, if anyone on this board is going to use we, I think Oldrunmer is entitled to it.

Sorry if this sounds creepy oldrunner, but I remember last season or the season before, oldrunner posted that he was going to miss a home game because he was running a race in St. George. During the game, which I watched online since I lived out of state, Dutch gave a shout out to a man and his wife who couldn'tmake it to the game because the man was running a race in St. George.

That's when I realized that Oldrunner was a lot closer to the program than any of us. True he becomes a passionate fan at times, but he usually knows what he is talking about.

In my book, you can keep using "we" Oldrunner. I, on the other hand, still need to use "they".

When Sojourner played they didn't have threes yet....NBA first used the 3 in 79-80.....NCAA in 86.....must of been church league rules....lol

It was after Willy had retired from pro ball in Italy. He was back in Roy working as a sub contractor. It wasn't a church tournament, but most of the teams came from those ranks. Being 6'9'' and a huge as he was, he dominated everything. What a nice guy though. I think it was in the 80s when I had my brush with Willy. I was happy to say that I played against him.

Can we get back on subject here!

All this talk about Sojourner has me thinking about the chances of Weber finding another player like that.
He must have been the complete package, a dominant force while at Weber and beyond. What kind of a star rating would he have in today's culture?

Is there another Sojourner type player in Weber's future? Is that even the direction that Weber would go?
Would his abilities translate to today's game?

Is his jersey going to be retired this season?
