Looks like Taiwan Jones is headed for the NFL!

Looks like Taiwan Jones is declaring for the NFL draft. Nice not too have to deal with him any longer! EWU won the National Championship without him so they will still be a handful. Interesting to see how his history of injuries will affect his draft prospects.

While this is good news (VERY good news) for the rest of the conference, they've already proven they can live without TJ.

My main concern is for TJ. I've never been a fan of leaving early. While it's probably not as much of a problem as it's been in the past, there turf is littered with guys who got huge paydays, then blew out an ACL or weren't as good as they thought and got cut, leaving themselves out in the cold with no degree. Some guys actually go back to finish the degree, but not all do. For TJ's sake, I hope he finishes up. Being the old-school fogie I am, I'd love to see the NFL revert to the old rule, which said that a guy wasn't eligible for the draft until either he had graduated or until his CLASS had graduated. (That was key in the Norm Van Brocklin case; when the Rams picked him out of Oregon early, people objected. He was able to complete all requirements for his degree early with help from Vassar, of all places. ) Unfortunately for me, that won't happen anytime soon because the NFLPA would scream bloody murder.

Super...i don't really think it was necessary to point out you are an old fogie when you use NORM FREAKIN' VAN BROCKLIN in your post!! not sure many besides you and me remember Storming Norman!

I hope it works out for him.

Well, as much as I would like to have seen The Dutchman live, I'm only familiar with him through books. A VERY colorful character, though. Nailing a teammates shoes to the ceiling with stuff inside that oozed out when he tried to get them down. Hitting a teammate in the head with a ball from 70 yards away (said teammate was goofing off during practice). Crazy dude. LOL.

hey, us mature fans have to stick together.

now, if you start talking about Slingin' Sammy Baugh or Bronco Nagurski, you're on your own!

a good friend of my dad is Gino Marchetti (both of them were Antioch football legends), who was chosen one of the 50 greatest NFL players. He has some stories like those you remember from the Van Brocklin stories. I think they had a little more fun back in the day!

Seriously, WTF do you smoke dude?

Name one EWU player that left early and hasn't been successful in the pros. Eric Kimble and Erik Meyer both graduated. The only other EWU guy that I know of that's left early for the pros is Stuckey, and he's making pretty good money in the NBA.

I think he took one too many hits to the head personally...

SE: Who said I was talking about EWU? I was going global. Ever since players were allowed to leave early (remember that originally it took a lawsuit to force that issue), immature people have screwed themseleves with bad agents, injuries, etc., all the while thinking they have it made and don't have to go back for their degrees. Nobody ever said that EWU had anything to do with that.

Because you referenced TJ, then prefaced your statement with "there turf is littered...", albeit the improper their. If you were speaking of players in general, you should've specified that instead of what you usually do, which is make people guess what your crazy ramblings are referring to.

Learn spelling, SE. I know in this day of textese, "there" is often misconstrued for "their." The antecedent for "there" was professional sports in general, not EWU's field.

I know my spelling and grammar; it's you who does not. If you were not going for the possessive "their turf," but rather generalizing to professional sports, first you need to reference what you're talking about by mentioning professional sports in general, then you can use the adverb there, but with a comma:

"...[first mention]...there, turf is littered with..."

The way you have it, it makes absolutely no sense. Explaining common sense shit to you is like trying to teach algebra to an infant. :x
