Lumberjack to compete in London Olympics

Nice story about current track and field standout Diego Estrada who this past Sunday met the olympic A standard for the 10,000 meters. With this he assures himself a spot in the London Olympics this summer. Estrada will represent Mexico his country of birth. It's so cool to see a Lumberjack from NAU actually running in the Olympic games :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: You know I will be paying extra close attention to that event this summer. Go Diego, good luck and represent NAU and Mexico well!!!

David McNeill and Lopez Lomong as well, right? I'd have to guess there's a good chance due to the number of international track/cross-country athletes NAU recruits that a former Lumberjack or two have a shot at representing their countries.

King - Did you see the recent video of Lopez Lomong? http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/05/01/151767845/incredible-race-americas-lopez-lomong-sets-2012-world-record-video" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Lopez Lamong stands a good chance of making the US olympic tema in June. He made the Beijing team in 08, and was actually the flag bearer. How cool is that? Hopefully he makes the team again this year. David McNeill has been having a tougher year this year and I don't think he has met the Olympic standard in any event yet. He needs to do this in order to have any chance at making the team for Australia.

I actually did see that race haha. I was watching online. What a crazy race. He stops with a lap to go and then starts running again and still finishing in a fantastic time. I think it's the best time in the world this year so far.

Former and current Lumberjacks are doing very well in their respective sports. Makes one proud :D

NAU track has had a number of Olympians:

Thanks, dbackjon. I met Jama Bile when he was running for Central Arizona College. I had forgotten that he finished up at NAU. Hell of a distance runner.
