Luncheon News

I went to the coaches luncheon today where the Wizard got a chance to speak a bit about the team. First, he said that he wasn't very happy about the results from the Purple and White game. He thought the team played like crap and expected more from them. He is hoping to see an improved team tonight and on Friday, because, as he said, a real team is making a visit next Tuesday. He said it was the most talented USU team he has seen in a while.

Next, he said that, as of right now, Oldrunner was hitting it on the nose (good job) that Wheelright and Fields are going to be redshirting, along with Berry. Brown will be getting the nod, and seeing a lot of time. He has been the most consistent. Rahe said that Gelaun and Shai are extremely talented and both have bright futures. That by redshirting both will be able to develop more and be that much more prepared when they hit the court. Personally, I think that Wheelright is being redshirted because it will give him more PT in the future if he does, and will help him understand the offense that much better. Shai, needs to get tougher. He is an extremely talented player, but he isn't the toughest, yet. I'm pretty sure he will get there. He's got a lot of growing to do, but I'm thinking he will be able to do it.

Rahe said the starting five for tonights game, and hopefully for the season will be:
1. Lillard
2. Bamforth (he just had his kid Sunday morning, if you see him congratulate him. Way to go Bam Bam!!)
3. Bull
4. Mook
5. Tresnak

Off the bench...
1. Richardson
2. Brown
3. Fulton
4. Mahoney
5. Hayek.

I'm thinking that Rahe expects Bull to play 30+ a game.

Finally, Rahe spoke a bit about the upcoming signing day (Wednesday), where he is expecting Weber to sign two kids. He said that after committing, one of his kids was continued to be recruited. He didn't say who, but there was a guess that it was Bolomboy. Joel is a serious get for the Cats. He was definitely under-rated by a lot of schools, until July when he blew up. Weber had had him on the radar for a couple of years and that is why we got him. HOwever, a few schools, Major programs, continued to recruit him, even after he committed to Weber (we are guessing that it the recruit is Bolomboy). The Wizard was frustrated by the schools conceit and disregard for continuing to recruit. Rahe said that, most of the time, that once a recruit commits, schools stop recruiting the athlete, but that wasn't the case this time around. Thankfully, he will be signing with Weber on Wednesday. Rahe did acknowledge that he doesn't consider a class anything until he sees them on the court. It takes about a month for a coach to understand a recruits ability. Most importantly, a recruit has to buy into the program and play with some toughness.
