I'm definitely a Hornet fan but during the 3 minutes of drills and scrimmaging that was shown of the first week of practices, the Hornets went 29 for 29 shooting the ball. That took some real good editing to do that. I'm getting antsy for some basketball.

 I don't think anyone will mind if we shoot 1.000 this season.

The week two video is up now and it had some interesting tidbits from Coack Katz...

-No transfers (JC or otherwise) on the roster - all are high school commits
-4 players that are 6'9" or taller
-Mason Stuteville continues to grow and bulk up, now taller than his brother (that's pushing 7'0").
-Style of play and look of team will be much different and more physical.

It's going to be fun to watch! This would be my starting 5 guess - think it's similar to other folks'... Who will pick up the scoring slack????? I like the idea of Mason Stuteville stretching the 4 and creating inside looks for big brother and Nick Hornsby.... Or drawing defenders to spring Demps on cuts to the rim...

PG Demps
SG Barlett
SF Hornsby
PF M. Stuteville
C E. Stuteville

I think your pretty close Kadeezy.....maybe one off....I think you pick up the scoring slack this way, Demps is going to increase his average by at least 6-7 pts bringing him to 15 -16 per game, Hornsby will increase by close to the 5-6 range, Big E will be up by 4-5, Strings should be in the 5-8 range, but the big jump is going to be by Barlett, who will be in double figures this year. Add in another 5-10 from the bench from Wu, Jiday, Mason, Trevis and James and I think you got your lost offense. We lost approximately 43 pts per game to graduation. With the figures I guessed at, we pick up right around 40. That still leaves us a bit short but not by much. What do you think???

Wow, I forgot about Marcus Graves who is probably going to start for the Hornets. He should be in the 6-10 pt range also so that puts us over what we lost by at least 5pts per game.

Ok, I've been to one practice but I can tell you this much, the media and coaches polls are WWAAAYYY off. The Hornets are going to be a tough match-up for any team in the BSC. I think we will be in the top 4 of the teams in the league. We lost a ton of points and experience with the graduation of McKinney and Garrity but the cupboard is far from bare. What I take away from seeing them practice is this; Katz will have his hands full trying to get everyone the time they deserve (not a bad problem to have). Marcus Graves is so smooth you sometimes forget that what he is doing is so hard to do. He is too good to not start at the 2. We all know how good Cody is but he is even better than I remember him. He is the leader of this team and will start at the point. He will have a size and strength advantage over every other point except Yanku at NAU who will match up equally. Cody has a real chance to end up as a 1st team All BSC player. Nick is still a ball magnet (seems to always be where the ball goes) and has added a leadership role to his value as well. He is stronger than last year and will probably lead us in rebounding as well as put up double figures in pts. Eric is looking better as well (more confidence, less hesitancy). He is going to be a load for any other BSC center to contain. Barlett is going to blow everyones socks off. I think he only missed one shot the whole practice and was not afraid to fire at will. You just have to play him because he opens up the inside so much. He will probably start at the 3 because in the BSC you need 3 pt shooters (its a guard dominated league). Dreon knows how to defend bigger players and he is so quick off the ground that he will deflect and steal alot of passes. As for who comes off the bench first will depend on what you need at the time. Mason is shooting the lights out from long range, Jeff Wu does not look like a freshman at all, he is defending great (staying in front of his man as well as anyone on the team) and his shooting could be the best on the team. Justin is playing terrific, rebounding and scoring with ease. He is shooting from outside much more than last year and looking pretty good doing it. James Herrick is much better than last year and will back Eric up in the post. Trevis can step in and lead at the point if needed (he is a natural point) as can Jiday (I think he could be a real disrupter in the press). All in all, I don't see as big a drop-off as the "experts" predict. Remember last year the "experts" had Weber wiping the floor with the rest of the league. How did that work out? I think we can beat any BSC team at home and will have a good chance at beating anyone on the road. The road is always the determining factor in the BSC and this year we don't have to go to SUU and NAU which has been a very tough roadie for us in the past. Katz has quietly put this team together and I think even he is thinking they have a much better chance than what the "experts" are giving them. This should be a real fun season of good basketball for Hornet fans.

Katz gives a good run down on the roster:
