The Hornets (3-1) hit the road to face an up and coming Central Arkansas (1-2) team who on paper looks to be much improved from a season ago. UCA’s only win is a blowout over a D2 opponent but they lost a close one at home against Arkansas State a few days ago.

UCA looks to be pretty evenly balanced. They are getting double digit scoring from 4 players, 2 of whom are forwards (#15) Jordan Harks and (#1) Jarvis Garner with 13.3 ppg each. It also looks like UCA goes 3-4 players deep into the bench. This looks like it will be a tough match-up for the Hornets as they will be tested in both the front court and back court.

UCA is ranked 14th in the nation in assists per game and 18th in boards per game. A lot of this might be skewed by the huge win over a D2 opponent, but it looks like UCA likes to spread the all around and get everyone involved.

Go Hornets!!!

Was following the game up until halftime when I turned it off out of frustration. Went to look at the final score later out of morbid curiosity and was pleasantly surprised to see we had won. Nice road win for the Hornets!

Vetelo with a huge game off the bench with 19 points 11 rebounds. Eberhard 13 points 10 rebounds and McKinney with 14 points for the starters. Dickson seemed to have a solid game himself. This group of guys has really captured my attention. Kicking myself for not following the game into the 2nd.

It's far too soon to make any statements of the nature, (though I will) but this team could really take the Sky by storm. Not saying we're goin to win the conference, but with the performances they've given so far, one can dare to expect (or at least dream of) a tournament berth.

After being down by 14 in the second half they really picked up the defensive pressure and Central came back to earth on their shooting percent. Really good effort all around.

Looking at the box it looks like they probably got tired. Didn't notice during game but their starters all played at least 33 mins. They got only 4 pts from their bench. Again we out rebounded big time and out scored them from the line by a ton. I hope this performance will get Eberhard back on track offensively.

I caught bits and pieces of the first half and saw pretty much the entire second half. It was an ugly game all around by both teams. A lot of turnovers and mistakes and plenty of fouls to go around. Hornets struggled on defense early on but settled down a bit in the second half. Hornets trailed by as much as 16 and 10 at half. The Hornets were sloppy down the final minutes of the game but UCA couldn’t capitalize on it. UCA had about 4 shots to tie the game in the last 15 seconds, fortunately they couldn’t hit home.

As far as individual efforts go, Veteto was huge inside and did well from the stripe (5/6). McKinney and Eberhard were also in scored in double digits and Eberhard was huge on the glass (10 boards). I thought Garrity didn’t put up enough shots; he had a few open looks that he passed up in the second half. Dickson was in foul trouble most of the night but he played a lot with 4 fouls and managed to stay in the game. Carbs continues to be an offensive liability as he went 0/6 from the floor (0/4 from 3). I would like to see more of Demps if Carbs can’t get it together.

An ugly win but in the past these were the types of games the Hornets would lose. With a D2 exhibition next up on the slate hopefully they can use that practice to get it together and finish OOC play strong.
