The Hornets (7-6, 2-3 BSC) continued their inconsistent ways and are heading to Cheney off of a blowout loss at Portland State. EWU (4-11, 2-3 BSC) is fresh off of a blowout win over NAU and are one of the many other BSC programs in rebuild mode. The Hornets are coming off of a respectable shooting night but the defense was nonexistent. This game is more than winnable if the Hornets show up on both ends of the floor.

Individual Stats: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/stats/_/id/331/eastern-washington-eagles

EWU’s leading scorer Justin Crosgile (14.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 5.5 apg) left the team due to personal reasons; however EWU touts one of the best freshmen in the BSC in forward (#55) Venky Jois (13.3 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.8 bpg) who leads the BSC in rebounding. EWU also got senior forward Collin Chiverton (11.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg) back from injury. Chiverton exploded for 22 points against NAU but there isn’t much offensive production from anyone besides Jois and Chiv. The team stats are pretty evenly matched but the Hornets appear to be the deeper team.

The Hornets are desperate for a road win as this team has shown the propensity to make opponents look like world beaters when they roll into town. No doubt Jois and Chiv are salivating at the prospect of abusing this soft Hornet front court after seeing the game against PSU. The Hornets need to dig deep and find a win here as a loss will drop this team in a bigger hole. IMO this is a must win game as a loss against an average at best EWU team means the Hornets will most likely end up in the cellar yet again.

Go Hornets!!!

After playing another poor defensive game in the first half against Eastern Washington, the Hornets trailed by ten, 33 to 23. However, the Hornets came out in the second half and challenged every play Eastern attempted and held them scoreless for over seven minutes and took the lead with 13 minutes to go and got the lead up to at least seven. Eastern made a comeback and led by one, 53 to 52, when Veteto hit two for two at the line and Eberhard hit a corner two and went four for four at the line to hold them off, 60 to 53. McKinney got us going early in the 2nd half and four Hornets hit double figures. We looked like a real team in the 2nd half.

Great win on the road for the guys. Played good second half defense and hit the clutch shots and free throws. Hope to get a split next weekend though winning at Weber will be a tall order.

Go Hornets!!!!

60-53 Hornet victory. I didn't see the game live but watched the replay after reading a couple recaps. It was a tale of two halves as the Hornets had a pretty terrible 1st half but have one of their best halves of the season in the 2nd. The Hornet defense played very well and it was equally matched on the other end. Eberhard was clutch from the stripe to seal the win and the Hornets did an excellent job of grabbing the loose balls. This was a huge road win.
