M: Exhibition vs Simpson

I should be going so I can see how everyone looks. I am most interested to see how Demps/Quigley/McKinney play. Coach Katz stated on the Big Sky conference call that we already have a set 8 man rotation with these 3 plus the returning starters, which is nice considering in the past it seemed like we had no idea who we were going to start let alone play.

I’m curious to know if Salley gets in. If there was no mention of him in the conference call, I’m wondering if the coaches will redshirt him this season.

I'd be surprised to see a Salley RS because we need him on the roster for depth purposes. I'm not sure if he will play much, but he provides depth. Veteto will be in foul trouble that we already know, because he plays physical and picks up cheap fouls so there will definitely will be minutes to be had on the bench down low.

Hornets took Simpson, 88 to 55. Looks like Quigley (14 pts, 8 rebs) and McKinney (18 pts) got the start and Carbajal (22 mins) and Veteto (17 mins) came off the bench. Dickson added 13 pts and 9 boards and Garrity had 8 assists.

Starters:
Dylan Garrity
Mikh McKinney
John Dickson
Joe Eberhard
Joey Quigley

First off bench:
Jackson Carbajal
Konner Veteto
Cody Demps

Street Clothes:
Jordan Estrada
Ryan Okwudibonye
Alex Tiffin

Mikh McKinney played very well and is a very quick small guy that can break down a defense off the bounce and a guy that can handle the ball so we can have Garrity coming off screens at times when we want to. Very athletic and finished well and the rim and played an overall great game.

Quigley is not that strong in the sense of a physical post presence, but was very active on the boards and played well. He hit a few nice mid range jumpers that were good hopefully that is a consistent part of his game. His game projects to fit nicely in the Big Sky.

Demps played well defensively but struggled a bit on offense, he looks to be a good player though and has really good size and length.

Salley/Bartlett played a few minutes at the end of the game and Salley look athletic for how big of a frame he has.

Carbajal came off the bench and brought his usual spark not sure if this will be the role for him this season but if it is he will do a great job bringing energy to the game.

Eberhard didn't play a ton because he was in foul trouble and we had a huge lead but he was as solid as usual and Garrity played like he always does under control and in charge. I hope he shoots the ball more this year because he is so good.

Does this mean neither of those guys will be redshirted? I get why Salley won’t be redshirted, but no way Barlett sees meaningful playing time this year.

And I wonder what is up with Estrada and Okwud.

From SSS...

Game notes:

•Ryan Okwudibonye (knee), Jordan Estrada (back) and Alex Tiffin did not dress for the Hornets. Okwudibonye is expected to be ready by the season opener. Estrada is out indefinitely, while Tiffin is sitting out because of NCAA transfer rules.
