The Hornets will be traveling to Oklahoma to collect a paycheck in exchange for a sure loss. The thing to watch in this one is how the Hornets will respond to a no-show a few nights earlier at Cal Poly. If the Hornets fail to get motivated and play with passion tonight, there will be serious cause for concern going forward. Oklahoma has good size and is ranked 5th in the nation in rebounding. I think scoring is going to be a difficult task for the Hornets and will need outstanding perimeter shooting if they want to keep this one close. UO is coming off of a big loss to St. Louis so I expect them to take their anger out on the Hornets.

Oklahoma team stats:
  • • 78.4 points/game
    • 42.8 rebounds/game
    • 13.0 assists/game
    • 5.2 steals/game
    • 3.8 blocks/game
    • 12.8 turnovers/game
    • 43.2 FG%
    • 71.2 FT%
    • 37.6 3-PT%
Oklahoma opponent stats:
  • • 70.8 points/game
    • 32.2 rebounds/game
    • 16.6 assists/game
    • 5.0 steals/game
    • 1.6 blocks/game
    • 15.4 turnovers/game
    • 43.5 FG%
    • 70.5 FT%
    • 37.1 3-PT%

Go Hornets!!!

As expected the Hornets got steamrolled 82-53. The game was available for stream on ESPN 3 and should be available to view via their replay function. I have yet to see any of it but the Hornets had some decent shooting numbers but it looks like UO shot the ball very well. It looks like they were just overpowered on the boards and committed way too many turnovers against a much bigger and more athletic team.

I only watched the first half but there were a lot of inexcusable turnovers off of poor passing. This really needs to get cleaned up. The Hornets struggled against UO’s size when attacking the basket. The Hornets did have about a 6 minute stint of decent play in the middle of the half. Defensively the Hornets would collapse to the inside when UO would get it to the post, this left UO shooters wide open on the perimeter which they took full advantage of. All in all it wasn’t a terrible half of play and they looked more in sync than they did in CP.
