Portland (4-6) lost at home to a struggling Idaho State team last night 66-65. Prior to that, the Pilots lost at home to Boise State and knocked off Portland State on the road. The Pilots are led by guards Alec Wintering (13.9 ppg, 6.3 apg) and Bryce Pressley (12.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg) that shoot the ball well from anywhere on the court. Portland also has some bench players that contribute in guard Tyson D’Marques (9.3 ppg) and guard/forward Jarrel Marshall (8.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg).

Portland graduated a lot of key players from the team the Hornets split (loss at home, win in CIT at Portland) last season. The Hornets have cooled off a bit from their hot start and have been a bit inconsistent lately. I think this will be a tough game for the Hornets, but a winnable road game nonetheless.

This year Portland seems to be guard oriented as opposed to last years when they had a couple of very skilled big guys. I like our chances against guard oriented teams as I think our front court will have an advantage. Hornets will have to start playing with fewer turnovers but I think that is easily achievable. I see a tight game that we win because of our ability to make plays down the stretch. The schedule we have played is going to help us out tomorrow.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. Only thing I was right about was that we have to cut down on our turnovers. First half we got killed on the boards, second half we killed ourselves with turnovers. We had many chances to cut their lead to less than 8 but just could not come up with a play....turnover, bad pass, offensive foul, lose the dribble out of bounds, whatever bad that could happen did happen. Bad night..now off to Stanford to get our second Pac12 win this year. Learn from this stinker and get better.

Another game to just brush off and learn from.

A game that the Hornets were behind and could not catch up.

Hit the books hard this week and best of luck on fall semester finals

than 5 or 6 weeks or more of just basketball until spring starts back on campus in the last week of January.

Starting with Stanford the Hornets only have basketball to focus on for a huge break from their studies.
and many games, including many games to begin the Big Sky away and at home during the long winter break.

The rather long winter break from classes can prove to be a big part of Hornet basketball success.

Show up big time Hornets at Stanford and get another win on Pac 12 TV and continue to represent a fine program at 6,000 J Street.

81-73 loss. I didn't see any of it but saw we were trailing by 14 at the half. It sounds like we were never really in this one. Looking at the box score, it seems like it was another game battling foul trouble. Hornets get a week off before having to play Stanford. Also the recent road woes seem like something to be concerned about along with the foul issues. This team just needs to play better.
