M: Sac State Invitational

The first annual Sac State Invitational tips off tomorrow. Hornets open up with South Dakota (2-3). The Coyotes have yet to win a game on the road this season but are led by a trio of guards all averaging 11.0 ppg or better. USD also has some size up front that could match-up well with the Hornet forwards.

The other game features EWU and Pacific. EWU is 2-2 and comes into this game splitting a home and home series with Seattle. Pacific is 1-3 with its lone win against a D2 opponent, however the Tigers have lost some close games so far and could easily be 3-1.

USA Today's Sagarin rankings show Sac St the 2nd best in the Big Sky at 173rd to Weber State's 114th place. The South Dakota Coyotes come in at 231; Pacific is 194 and Eastern only 251. The 3rd highest ranked team in the Big Sky is Portland St at 199 right now. Beyond this tournament, Davis is at 197, Incarnate Word at 279, the Univ of Portland Pilots at 144 and Stanford at #90.

We could be 6 and 0 going into Davis; they'll really be 'gunning' for us tho; I'm sure they think they could've beaten us the other night.

Hornets pick up their first loss 96-90. Hornets played well, except the perimeter defense was awful as they left lots of USD shooters wide open which was the difference in this one. Graves was quiet, but a good offensive showing from everyone else. Have to win these types of games at home.

Damn... Probably the only game I'm going to miss this year (if you're going to miss one it might as well be a loss). Well, my hopes didn't come true but they can still beat Pacific today (I will be there).

Today's opponent, UOP, has trouble shooting the 3 ball, so that shouldn't be a problem tonight. EWU beat them on a night when EWU didn't shoot the ball worth a damn. I think we will win this one by about 10 or more. Marcus should bounce back from an off shooting night and really that's all there is to it.

Yesterday EWU knocked off Pacific 70-63.

Today USD knocked off EWU 77-71. Making USD the unofficial Sac State Invitational champs.

Hornets knocked off Pacific 79-71. I wasn’t able to make it to the game today, but watched the last 15 minutes. The Hornets let Pacific hang around in the first half, but then took control for most of the 2nd. Things got a little sloppy at the end and it was a little closer than it should have been. Either way the Hornets did what they needed to do and got the win with a solid all around game.

Also it looks like the watchbigsky site has replays available if anyone is interested in catching some of the games from earlier this season.
