M: at North Dakota

The Hornets (12-10, 7-7 BSC) hit the road this week to take on North Dakota (10-13, 7-7 BSC). Both teams are statistically pretty even but UND will have the edge as they will be at home. Currently these teams are in a 3-way tie for 4th place but the Hornets can secure all the tie-breakers with UND if they can steal a win in this one. A win will also go a long way in securing a BSC Tournament bid for the Hornets.

The Hornets will need to slow down Troy Huff (18.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg) as well as the many other weapons UND has as it’s going to take a complete effort to get a win in Grand Forks.

This will be a tough game for the Hornets. Hopefully, North Dakota will hit another ten minute scoring drought like they did against us at the Nest. I like watching Huff play, but he could kill us. Eberhard's been playing real good D lately; maybe he'll be on him. The Hornets are so weak on the road tho; that's our next big hurdle to overcome to become a solid team.

23 all at the half. Hornets are getting all of their points in the paint and have yet to connect from beyond the arc. Good job of the Hornets sticking around after falling behind by 12.

We're bungling so many chances on both ends. Can't do that on the road and expect to win. Down 30 to 26 with 16 to go. Get it together Hornets.............

Under 12 to go; Hornets still in it, but trailing 35 to 32. McKinney no points and oh for 7 after a 30 point game vs PSU. Veteto leads with 14 and Dickson with 10, Carbajal with 6. We need to try to pull this one out.

Hornets have missed 3 wide open lay-ups; two by Veteto and one by Dickson. Could come back to haunt us as we trail by 6, 43 to 37 with under 7 to go. McKinney finally scored his first field goal. Poor game for him.

Hornets steal the ball, but Webb steals it back from Demps; Hornets get it back with a chance to win, but Dickson misses a 25 footer at the horn and lose 49 to 48. This was the game we needed to steal. Damn.....

49-48 Hornet loss final. UND did all they could to give this one away but this program just doesn't know how to win. Poor rebounding early and too many missed high percentage shots in the 2nd half. Also very poor sequence on the final shot. 6 second is more than enough time to get a good look off of a missed FT.

Garrity should not defer to Dickson cuz he's a better shooter than Dickson. Dickson isn't that good outside the arc. Garrity needs to take that ball into the paint. He had time. Garrity just doesn't trust his shooting ability enough yet; he should tho. Rack up another road loss. We could easily be 10 and 5; four one point losses doesn't get you much.

Garrity doesn’t shoot enough. He will really need to put up more shots next year as the front court talent won’t be there. Frustrating loss. The game plan was great and it was those handful of misses at the bucket that was the difference.

M: at Northern Colorado

The Hornets (12-11, 7-8 BSC) have to recover from another close loss and head to play a surging UNC (8-15, 6-9 BSC) team who has its sights set on playing their way into the BSCT. UNC has one of the easiest schedules the rest of the way so they have a good chance to steal the Hornets tournament bid. A Hornet win would be huge but they will have to find a way to over come their road woes. I would like to think this will be a close one but UNC has a ton of momentum heading into this one and they have the talent to run the Hornets off the court.

It doesn't look good at Northern Colorado as the Bears are taking it to the Hornets in all phases and lead easily, 45 to 27. UNC looks like they want to make the conference tourney; Sac St looks half asleep. Outrebounded by 11, shooting 6 of 12 from the free throw line, no real D as they are hitting 53%. We're just a "bad" team when on the road.

Hornets drop to 7-9 now as UNC took it to us, 78 to 64. Demps and Carbs got us close to being in it with very good play in mid-second half from 20 down to only 9, but we couldn't hit any 3's (3 of 17) and free's (9 of 18), when we were making a run. Demps had his best game and looked like he should be a starter as he got 13; Carbs added 9. Dickson had an awful game shooting one-legged fade aways missing all five of them; at least Katz sat him some and let Demps play then. Dickson and Eberhard are too inconsistent for us to be a good team down the stretch; Garrity didn't look all that good tonight either and McKinney only showed up in the first half.

Not good for the Hornets. To make matters worse, NAU won giving them the inside track on the last BSCT bid (they hold the tire braker over the Hornets). The only good news is the MSU is imploding so they played themselves into the battle for the last tourney spots. EWU has also been onaa run so they are a game back. I just don't think 8 wins will be enough for this team to make it. It is not looking good.
