M: vs EWU

The Hornets have EWU 8-8 (2-2) coming into The Nest tonight. EWU is playing some decent ball and are doing a lot better than I thought they were considering they have a new coaching staff this season coupled with the loss of a couple of key players from a year ago. This is a perfect case of a program bringing in the right guy, making due with what he has and having a turnaround in one offseason. EWU has multiple players averaging double digit scoring per game in Chiverton (15.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg), Colimon (15.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.3 apg), and Ederaine (11.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.9 apg). EWU has struggled on the road but conversely the Hornets have not protected their house. The Hornets couldn’t stop a reeling UNC team that had some injuries to key players a week ago, so I don’t think the Hornets will do well tonight if EWU continues to shoot the ball like they have been all season long. The Hornets need to sweep this week’s home stand if they want to get back into the BSC Tournament discussion. If the Hornets lose out this week, there is no doubt the Hornets will finish last in the conference.

EWU team stats:

Go Hornets!!!

EWU 65-60 final. This was a close one the whole way through but the Hornets came up short in typical Katz fashion. EWU had a bad shooting night but the Hornets were unable to capitalize. The Hornets were unable to put the game away and EWU had a strong finish to grab the win. Carabajal (17 pts, 3 rebs) along with Dickson (11 pts, 2 rebs) led the Hornets in scoring but everyone else had a quiet night as the Hornets continued to struggle to score. The Hornets are in complete free fall mode and need to turn things around against ISU tomorrow night.

The officiating was terrible. A lot of bad calls against our posts and ones they didn't call and I think that frustrated the team more than anything. It sucks getting hosed in our own home, but whatever. EWU is a good team, especially Chiverton beyond the arc.
