M: vs Northern Colorado

The Hornets (16-8, 10-3 BSC) look to continue their dominance in the Nest during BSC play as UNC (12-12, 7-6 BSC) comes to town. The Hornets are coming into this weeks games after being swept on the road while UNC is coming in being swept at home by the Montana's (including a heartbreaking 3OT loss vs Montana).

The Bears got the better of the Hornets in Greeley, now it's time for the Hornets to return the favor. UNC has struggled in road BSC games, but they are fighting to secure their BSCT berth and will be playing for their post-season lives. I expect this game (and pretty much everything from here on out) to be another grind.

66-59 Hornet win. Hornets got off to an absolutely ugly start but got things together and grinded out another BSC win to stay perfect at home in BSC play. Officials called a tight game and some Hornets got into fould trouble early. Great atmosphere, the students were hostile to the UNC bench the whole game. Very entertaining.

UNC played some great defense and made things tough on the Hornets. The UNC quickness neutralized Stuteville and Tiffin to large extent and Strings got some huge minutes. If he can start making his FTs he will be a solid player for the next 3 years. Hornets came through yet again in the clutch and were able to get a small lead late. Solid perimeter defense made it hard for UNC to get open looks to get within a couple possessions.

Huge win, Hornets can now look forward to going for perfection at home in BSC play.

vs North Dakota

The Hornets (17-8, 11-3 BSC) face a struggling North Dakota (8-17, 4-10) who is 2 games back of the last BSCT berth. The Hornets won a close game against UNC and UND is coming into the Nest off of a loss at PSU. UND has nothing to lose from here on out, they have some players that can do some damage and I expect them to give it all they got.

Every game remaining is a must win game, however this is the final game in the Nest for the seniors and they need to go out on a high note. If the Hornets can clean up their act a bit and play to the level that they have for much of the season then they should win this game.

Sweet to finish the home regular season at sold out Hornet Gym (5 times in a row) with a 9-0 record in Big Sky home games and 12-1 over all on campus. Would be oh so sweet to see the Hornets back on campus at the WELL (imagine that) hosting the Big Sky tourney in our state of the art beautiful student recreation facility that is such a source of pride.

Congrats to the seniors and may they do everything they can to play again on campus in a few weeks.

So sweet to see the Hornets in first place in late February at 12-3 in the Big Sky and 18-8 overall.

Much yet to come and much still to accomplish for this team and program. And they have control over their destiny in terms of hosting the Big Sky tourney.

All that being said.

Just a pause for now and such an appreciation for what this team has accomplished come senior night on campus tonight at beautiful Sacramento State.

Go Hornets!!!

Sac State Pride

74-66 Hornet win in another great atmosphere in the Nest. Hornets got off to a slow start but then just methodically dissected the UND defense. Great ball movement, great inside passes, Garrity was perfect from the floor (only blemish was a missed FT), McKinney did his thing but it was Hornsby with a monster game inside (double double). UND just couldn't defend him.

On the other end the Hornets made things tough on UND, and it was their perimeter shooting that kept them in it otherwise it would have been a rout. Hornets controlled much of the 2nd half. Excellent game, and excellent way for the senior to go out. The Hornets ran the table at home in BSC play, very impressive.

The win puts the Hornets in first place and they control their own destiny. The three road games are going to be tough so they have a tough road ahead. That said, no matter how this plays out...

BEST
