M: vs Portland

Portland comes to the Nest touting a 6-2 record after an overtime loss at Oregon State last weekend. Portland is off to a good start on the season so this will be a tough challenge for the Hornets. The Pilots have 3 players averaging over 10 ppg and as a team average 39 rpg (3 players average over 5 rpg).

If the Hornets play like they did against Fullerton then this will be a close entertaining game; otherwise it could turn into a long night.

We need to keep the turnovers to under 10.....we need to stay within 3 or 4 rebounds of them.......and we need to get our fg% over 50 and 3pt% over 40.....we do all these things I think we win....we need to do as many of these things as possible to get a win....we also need to get as many VOCAL FANS as possible to the Nest this evening to make our home court advantage as great as it can be....

Great shot at pulling out a win at the end was done in by turnovers. Huge bummer.

Go Hornets and good luck wrapping up preseason on the road and heading back to Hornet Gym for the Big Sky opener on Jan. 1st

80-75 Hornet loss. Very gritty performance by the Hornets. Portland had a big size advantage down low and the Hornets matched their physicality punch for punch. Some absolutely tenacious defense played tonight as well. Portland was able to get their perimeter shooting going midway through the 2nd half and that was the difference. The Hornets still grinded it out and had a chance in the final minute. Hell of a game, this team battled hard tonight.

Sac just couldn't quite get over the hump last night. Fell behind by 10 in the first 7 mins and never could get the lead. The guys played extremely hard all night. This team will not quit. Mikh had as good a performance as I have ever seen a Sac State player have (32pts 7rbs 8a &7st.....flirting with quadruple double territory). These guys learned from this game and it will make them better come conference play. Stuteville had his best game of the season, not just in points but in the way he battled Portland's trio of 6'11" guys. He definitely learned from this outing. We didn't shoot well enough from deep and we didn't rebound quite as well as we needed to get the win. Portland definitely knows they were in a game last night.
