M: vs. SEMO

Southeast Missouri State (4-7) has yet to win a game on the road this season (like UND) and hopefully the Hornets can keep it that way. SEMO is here in return for the Bracketbuster game of a season ago. Much of that SEMO team returned and this game won’t be an easy one. SEMO has a capable front line which is lead by forwards Powell (14.5 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Stone (13.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg). Their backcourt is filled out by guards Smith (9.2 ppg, 2.3 apg) and Niemczyk (7.4 ppg, 1.7 apg). This team is deep and has the players to win in The Nest but SEMO has struggled this season (2 of their wins are against non D-1 opponents). As a team they don’t shoot FT’s and 3’s particularly well but they do match up with this Hornet team. The Hornet bigs are going to be tested in this one and it’s going to take a full 40 minutes of disciplined and well executed play to win this game.

SEMO team stats:
  • • 69.7 points/game
    • 33.9 rebounds/game
    • 14.9 assists/game
    • 5.6 steals/game
    • 3.1 blocks/game
    • 14.1 turnovers/game
    • 47.8 FG%
    • 62.9 FT%
    • 31.0 3-PT%
SEMO opponent stats:
  • • 73.6 points/game
    • 33.9 rebounds/game
    • 12.5 assists/game
    • 7.5 steals/game
    • 3.9 blocks/game
    • 12.4 turnovers/game
    • 45.7 FG%
    • 69.9 FT%
    • 42.9 3-PT%

Hornetsports Preview:
Not yet posted.

Go Hornets!!!

As busy as you are down south, it's amazing how you continually churn out these quality previews and reviews, yet the SIDs are always so freaking SLOW.

:ohno:

76-77 SEMO win final. I only caught the second half but the Hornet defense was nonexistent for most of it. They did nothing but chase the ball all night long as the Hornets entered the second half with a double digit deficit. The Hornets got completely dominated by the SEMO bigs Porter & Stone. Dickson was the only Hornet that looked to give a damn on offense. The Hornets did have a scrappy final 5 minutes to pull this game close but SEMO was bailed out by a terrible call at the end of the game (not surprising as they were OVC refs). Just when you think this Hornet team is finally getting it together, they come out and get completely worked by a team that up until tonight had yet to win on the road. The Hornets head into conference play with a losing record of 5-6.

If we can finish middle of the pack this year, next season could be very promising with everyone coming back except McCarver and Hoffman. I just want to see a competitive effort each time out with a few wins along the way, and just maybe we'll get in the BSC tournament. With a couple of solid recruits, next season I can see a ligitimate run at an NCAA bid (I said it, and I haven't had a drink all morning).

This is the 3rd straight year under Katz where this team has struggled to be consistent and fails to put in a full game worth of effort each time out. I’m over being content with just being competitive. This team needed to start pulling down wins, especially against fellow struggling programs that the OOC schedule was filled with. Now this team needs to regroup and pull down some BSC wins, something that has been elusive for quite some time now.
