M: Weber State at Idaho State

WSU (10-3, 5-0 BSC) plays at ISU (3-11, 2-3 BSC) tonight at 6pm so it offers an opportunity to catch a sneak peak of both of this weeks road opponents. ISU has been bad but they are coming into this rivalry game on a 2 game win streak.

Weber has been…well…Weber. WSU knocked off a top notch Dayton team on the road in early in OOC play and has rolled all of their BSC opponents save a close one in OT at PSU and a close one at SUU. I expect a WSU rout tonight but you just never know; ISU did knock them off at home last year.

WSU won 70-54 but ISU played a scrappy first half and only trailed by 2 at the half. ISU plays a very slow tempo game and aims to limit possessions and really capitalized off of a sloppy WSU first half. ISU had success driving to the hoop and drawing fouls in the first half but went away from that in the 2nd half. WSU opened up the 2nd half on a quick run and jumped out to a considerable lead that never diminished.

The ISU announcers said they were missing a couple of starters due to academic reasons (#13) Jakub Kusmieruk and injury (#1) Tomas Sanchez. If ISU can play as well as they did in the first half for a complete game they will no doubt win some more games this season. I hope Katz had the Hornets watching this one so they know it will take a complete game to snatch a win in Pocatello.

I actually think Sac will beat ISU in Pokey, ISU is not the best shooting team in the league, but they are a good defensive team, they like playing the slow mid-court game that throws some other teams off, like Weber last night in the first half. Weber started playing uptempo in the 2nd half and ISU couldnt keep up with us. ISU looked tired, it was thier 2nd game in two days and thier game vs Sac will be thier 3rd game in 6 days, Advantage Sac State.

ISU has some scrappy players, and Evans has that team going in the right direction, but I still think they are at least a year or 2 away from the conf tourney.
