Oh my a-gawd! :o

This is the best news to be of great expected benefit to the Viks.

Kudos, blazer of Trail Chisholm, builder of Portlandian sportsmind relations.

David Hersh wants bring the fun and the vision back to Portland State athletics

Those were the days my friend. The Pokey Allen era....

All the marketing in the world won't help unless Nigel Burton produces a winning football team.

Dwight Jaynes' take

At this point, I'm going to have to call that task "Mission Nearly Impossible."

Why, Dwight? There are many reasonable arguments why PSU should be more prominent. I think we're going to have to call you Debbie Downer from now on (or Dwight Downer).

The Viking brand -- if there even is one -- has nowhere to go but up, by Hersh's own admission. And a confession here -- I graduated from Portland State and spent a few years coaching there.

My sister, my brother and I did too. You really don't care about Portland State right now, do you, Dwight? You distance yourself from your school. Aren't you willing to help and believe?

But I have a deep respect for Hersh's ability to create excitement, controversy, interest, shock and awe. If anyone can do this, he is the one. And he's got some experienced help on his team from ex-Portland Beaver general managers Mike Higgins and Mark Helminiak, former Portland baseball owner Jack Cain, advertising wizard Cap Hedges, promoter Dream Weaver and many others.

At this point the Vikings are as close to athletic obscurity as they could be and still survive in a town this size. This will not be an overnight turnaround. Can Hersh do it? I'm not sure -- but if he can't, I don't know if anyone can.

Dwight, you dummy, stop being so pessimistic and thinking in black-and-white, all-or-nothing terms. You just make yourself look bad to people who care about Portland State. I think it would be wise to bar you from all PSU events until you start believing in the work here.
