Welcome aboard gentlemen. It's always good to have new Bengals. From a purely production standpoint, McCord is probably ISU's most impressive signing in years. And what I read of Dowd's character (and he was also very productive) excites me about his leadership qualities at the point.

Dowd is an easy dude to rally behind. My wife might have just found a new favorite.

I am excited about this commitment. Actually both. I still think this team can turn things around. Wait, I think I have said this every year for the past 32.

Me too Cub. Hope springs eternal.

Ryan Collingwood of the Couer d'Alene Press has a nice article (and video interview) about Dowd's decision to choose ISU...

Enjoyed his comment about "falling in love with the bagel place" in Pocatello. That would be The Bagelry, where you can meet both men's and women's recruits most any Saturday in March or April. My favorite place too, Sam.

I' m really excited about Sam Dowd coming to ISU. I think this is the first NIC recruit that I can ever recall. They've had a successful program for years. I remember the years of Coach Rollie Williams from Kellogg, Idaho. My son-in-law played for him many years ago. I never heard anyone here at ISU recruiting at NIC. Same with CSI in Twin Falls, another successful program from the early days of Coach Eddie Sutton. Maybe someone can correct me about our not recruiting in those basketball towns in Idaho, but it's always puzzled me about why we would not try at least. But, we now welcome Sam as a Bengal. Glad to have you, Sam. Welcome aboard.

I don't know about NIC, but I know CSI has traditionally been a stash away program for bigger schools. They "place" highly talented non-qualifiers there with the understanding that CSI would deliver them back to that school after they got academically eligible. ISU has recruited a few second tier kids from CSI over the years, kids that weren't starters or were role players, but none were really impact players at the Big Sky level.

One major "fail" in this area was Nick Hansen of Poky High. Nick was a three-point specialist at CSI who really wanted to come to ISU but Joe O'Brien was looking for a PG at the time and wouldn't recruit Nick. He went on to a very productive career at Weber State.

This year ISU offered Casdine Jardine, a 6-7 F from Twin Falls, but he signed with BSU. In comparing numbers, the Truman kid that ISU signed out of Snow College this year actually was more productive than Jardine, and Truman was a first-team all SWAC selection, while Jardine was not a full time starter at CSI. We'll see who has the better collegiate career.

Thanks, Skippy. Makes total sense about D1 programs using CSI as a honing-zone for their own programs, thus limiting who's eligible for others to recruit. Perhaps this can be a foot-in-the-door for NIC. It looks like Montana is getting one of Sam's team mates. I'm really disappointed in Joe not getting Hansen. That could have been the start of something good, too. But, thank God it's a new season. Our recruits look good. Just hope everyone can come together for a unified team. We seem headed in that direction.
