McCoy, Davis left bigger shoes to fill than I thought

This crap never happened last year in conf. I mean we beat teams like UM by 20 on the road, not the other way around, and while I do love how this team never quits WHY, WHY do we always dig such huge holes to dig out of this year. With the exception of the Montana St. game last year we were really clicking this time last year can somebody explain to me what the difference between this years team is? You would think that Session replaces Davis, and Hansen and Lillards improvements on there games, and the Hughey flashes of great play (BYU) we could make up for the losses of these 2 guys, but it hasn't happened yet. I don't know maybe there was something to the Lillard/McCoy combo and Davis off the bench that we just can't replicate. I think USU is realizing that Gary Wilkinson was the identity of there team last year, and with 4 returning starters like us there is something definately out of whack/missing from what we had on last years team. Anybody have any thoughts, I personally thought we would be alot better this year. I don't think we have played particularly well in a conference game yet.

The top half of the conference is just much better this year. That UNC team is very good, and watch out for PSU. They are coming on strong. The biggest problem with this team is that they are just not a good shooting team. I did think we would be better, but I'm not going to panic after losing to the Bears. They are just a better team.

2008-09 season the team lost 3 out of 4 games to end the OOC schedule. We played 3 games in 4 days from Dec 20 to Dec 23 and lost 2 out of 3. Fans were wiggin out when we lost to Texas Pan American and were questioning the senior leadership in McCoy and Davis.
(for those that dont recall, davis was way pissed the fans were talking trash on him and mccoy)

Look how the conf season turned out.

Mybe we should consider doing things a little bit different, Start Hughey instead of Hansen, and give Matt Washington and Darin Mahoney and maybe Josh Noble more playing time. Randy needs to put Sessions on the free throw line all day next practice, he cant make freethrows at all. And even though I know we have players that can shoot the 3 ball, but right now we are not. Stop shooting so many freaking 3 balls go inside more often and kick it out if necessary.

Im not worried, because i think we just played the best team in the sky this year, they also have a loss, and they still need to come here so lets just play SMART basketball and we'll be alright.

The offense is offensive.
Defense (for the most part) and rebounding are solid. These are the hallmarks of the Rahe system.
It seems to me that the offense is the real weak link this year. I have noticed a lot of "quick and sloppy" shots. Players seem to be jacking up quick shots when they are off balance or when they are covered or nobody is in position for a rebound. I know that the offense takes a while to get clicking under the Rahe system, but it is taking way too long this year.
It seems that the only real offensive threat we have is D-Lill (by this I mean someone who can consitently score and create open shots).

I don't know what the answer is to their offensive struggles, but until those are fixed, this will be a mediocre season.

CATCAT thinks we lost to Texas Pan American...LOOOOOOOOL. We lost to Southern Miss!!

We don't have an consistent inside threat. Panos only plays well half the time. Its not that he isn't trying though, he is the best offensive big that we have. I've never seen anyone try so hard, sometimes, he might be trying to hard. He needs to relax and let the game come to him. I think for Panos that starts on the defensive side of the court. Last night the bigs got torched by Montgomery, who isn't that great, but we made him look it. Last night, Panos was to worried about producing offensively that his defense slacked horribly. I think Panos is a good player, that works hard, and does his best, but sometimes thats not enough. His problem is a mental one. He has a good baselin J for a big man though. Morris...YIKES. He's a lost cause in my opinion. He's been playing in the system for three years and still has a deer in the headlights look to him. I know he works hard and wants to be on the floor more, but you can't put him out there. He is slow moving through the sets and has a terribly tendency to foul. He has flashes of greatness, but only when he gets pissed. Mahoney is our best defensive post player. He moves well and is a beast in the air. Thankfully, he is starting to show some off some offensive skills. Even though he is 3-3 from 3pt range this year he still isn't a great threat though. Washington...well, he gives it his all when he's on the floor. Thats more than some of the other guys.
When Weber is the toughest is when they are moving the ball. The guys have been to slow getting into their sets, and it seems that they are just going through the motions sometimes. When the Cats are moving around on the offensive side of the court the opposing defenses have a hard time containing them. Weber needs to maximize their talents. Speed, penetration/ability to get to the hoop, toughness, and athletism. We need to do a better job of pulling the defense away from the center, to open the lane. Or go back to posting up their guards with Lillard, hughey, or session. As for Hansen he can make the curl shots, but is missing his open shots. Bull is doing fine in my opinion. He is a streaky shooter, he just doesn't make good decisions sometimes. He has a problem making a pass once in a while. Hell put him down low. We need a different scheme for our paint play. Getting different players the ball in the blocks. Do any of you remember the Cravens play where he would put supaman in the blocks? That was an automatic two everytime. I know Lillard has that ability or at least give him a chance to pass or move his way to the bucket.
Finally, the SKY is much better. Every team is dangerous and Weber is playing with a target on their backs. Weber could have won last night, but they committed to many TO's (18), were slow on offense, got destroyed in the paint, and didn't defend the 3 very well. Also, they allowed UNC to get to the hoop. I know our frontcourt is far quicker than UNC's. Figures and Beitzel ate our guards alive. Lillard needs to become a two dimensional beast, he needs to start off going to the basket and use the 3 are a secondary option. Also, he needs to be able to hit his jumpers. He's doing great though in my opinion. Those are areas that he could improve on. Hughey...consistency. Session...shooting woes, thankfully he'll get better. Noble isn't really the answer, but I like his toughness and work ethic. Rahe said that our team would have a problem with shooting, something that will be alleviated next season with Coro, Bamforth, and Davis. Each are great shooter with Coro and Bamforth being able to create shots. So, I'm not to worried. With the Wizard Weber will always be improving. I do like our toughness and never say die attitude. We all know this team wont give up. Lets just start hoping they decided to play the whole game. If they do nobody can beat us.

how is it possible to have a mediocre season? we went 3-0 and lost on the road to a team that is 14-3?

we gonna be 12-4 at least
