McGowen Wins Big Sky POTW

OGDEN, UTAH (Jan. 30, 2012) - Idaho State’s Kenny McGowen has been selected as the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week after leading the Bengals to wins over Northern Colorado and Weber State.

McGowen, a 6-foot senior guard from McKinney, Texas, averaged 18.5 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 rebounds per game as the Bengals ran their winning streak to three games.

McGowen scored 18 points with five steals, four assists and three rebounds and five steals as the Bengals beat Northern Colorado 99-94 in double overtime on Thursday, Jan. 26. McGowen converted a 3-point play with 29 seconds remaining in the first overtime to tie the game and send it to a second overtime.

McGowen scored a game-high 19 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Bengals beat Weber State 64-62, handing the Wildcats their first conference loss and ending their 10-game winning streak. McGowen was 7-of-14 from the floor, and 4-of-9 from 3-point range. He also had two assists, a steal and a rebound in 37 minutes of action.

Idaho State has won four of its last five games under interim head coach Deane Martin. The Bengals are in fourth place in the conference standings at 5-4.

This is the first career Player of the Week honor for McGowen.
