SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men’s basketball squad, which enters its third season under head coach Brian Katz, will open its practice schedule this Friday, Oct. 15, at 5:00 p.m.

Practice, which is closed to the public, continues 5-6 days a week leading up to the team’s lone home exhibition game against Menlo on Friday, Nov. 5, at 7:05 p.m. The Hornets’ season opener will take place at home against Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 4:30 p.m. Four of the team’s first five games will be played at home, including Nov. 23 against UC Davis.

it would be nice to see more freshmen among the 'newcomers'; at some point, it seems like Katz needs to start weening off the JC transfers and get some 4 (or more) year guys in there.

He is listing four freshmen in the newcomers. I think he is doing as good a job as he can. I think we all know that at this level, with the obstacles he has to overcome (facilities, conference, etc.) drawing top notch freshmen can be very difficult. JUCO's and other transfers usually are used quite a bit at the Mid-Major level. I think he got a steal last year with John Dickson. Let's hope he found a couple of diamonds with Carbajal and the gang.
