Mid Major poll

Uh, WTF!! Okay...well, we don't play for rankings, but for championships. Who cares where the Mid Major wanks put us...we all know how good the Cats are.

i think we should be higher right now too.

we have 3 losses: usu, byu, sjsu. 2 of the teams are top 10 and the other is 8-6 and 3-1 in wac. so san jose is looking decent though that is never a good loss if your a good team. all 3 of our losses were close games too.

we beat dayton which is a quality win, all our conf wins so far are considered bad teams.

teams we have lost to are 33-11
teams we have beat are 37-60 (13-37 big sky, non conf DI only 24-23)
2 non dI's are like games that didn't take place i guess, so maybe treat it like we are 7-3 like sagarin.

I agree with this poll. We could move up a few spots maybe ahed of Stony Brook or Wright State. But, Detroit and those teams ahead of us have had tough schedules and some good games.

Who really cares about this poll? This is like being voted the most popular kid at band camp. It is not going to matter come March. We just need to keep laying the wood to the teams we are supposed to beat handily. Interestingly enough, Lunardi has Weber listed as a 13 seed and Utah State listed as a 14 seed in his latest bracketology.

Just something fun to look at, obviously getting the the Big Dance is the ultimate goal and it should for the players playing the game. But, for fans and a general fan of college hoops it's fun to see how we compare about other teams around the nation. In the grand scheme of things it means nothing, but is still something fun to look at.
But, I agree lets keep laying wood on other teams and see if we can get ourselves up to a 11-12 seed come tourney time. Only way that happens is to keep pounding these weaker teams and take care of business vs Montana and Bracketbuster.

A 11-12 seed is not going to happen, the big sky is just too bad this year :wall: . If we can make it to the big dance and get a 13 seed we should be stoked.

Agreed...If we get a 12 seed I will be beyond shocked.

Reason why Weber is getting more love lately than USU, is because the current WAC is a YIKES conference like the Sky. Also, the Aggies haven't been exactly dominant in their wins. HOwever, they do continue to win. Thats all that matters and that is exactly what Weber has to continue to do too.

I wouldn't be that surprised at all a lot depends on other teams not our own. If we run the table and win our tourney maybe originally we would be a 13-14 seed, but if teams that are ahead of us for automatic bids such as say Bucknell, gets upset in their tourney. Then where Bucknell would be a 12 seed and ahead of us their conference would now get a 15-16 seed by whoever won their conference tourney. In return that would move us up just off the basis of another team blowing it that should have been in over us. A lot depends on if Montana can keep winning and who we get in the bracketbuster as well. Having quality wins will be important and Montana and NAU believe it or not are the next two highest rated teams based on RPI after us. So I'll be rooting for them when we don't play them just so we can have more "quality wins".

i dont care what seed; just want in. we are in one of our longest droughts.

last 2 weber seeds were 15 and 12

What is really sad is that the Cats are in a long NCAA Tourny drought during one of their most successful periods. YIKES!!

well our longest drought is 12 yrs - 83 to 95, second longest is 6 yrs currently, was 4 yrs prior to 2007. longest drought of big sky reg season banner is 10 yrs, 84-94.

Okay...what about periods of success? Wouldn't you agree that the last few years are one of Weber's most successful?

I'm guessing the only reason NAU's RPI is higher is due to their brutal non-conference road schedule that included U Oregon, U Arizona, U Colorado, BYU and UNLV. I feel safe to predict at least three NCAA bids out of that list. Five wins by the Jacks match last season's total so they are improved....but they aren't at the level WSU and UM are right now. NAU will win a few conference games this year but they'll lose more. Other than Russell, the freshmen are playing like, well, freshmen.

Weber State @ NAU is on a Saturday this year....hmm. Just may have to make a trip up the mountain to watch that one.

Yay we were just voted one of the cool kids at band camp. The 6-0 record means far more to me than this stupid poll. The fact that we came out in the second half last night and made some adjustments and closed out a team that had a little momentum matters to me. The fact that SUU can get way more student support than we can matters to me. I just wish people would spend a little more time worrying about things that matter like student and community support.

Maybe if Arkey keeps saying we are hotter than Honey Boo Boo, the other mid majors will notice and vote us higher in their dumb poll.

THANKS WILDCAT for furnishing this poll info...it's interesting to alot of us fans who want to see some things on a national scale-per mid major level. Same with football FCS national rankings; that's the stage to see any national respect for a Weber State or Big Sky team!! We enjoy reading it!! Keep it up!! Luv all the specs. on Wildcat players, teams, support, etc., but until a Randy Rahe coached Wildcat team can win a game against a BYU team (just at home even) or get a quality win in a national post-season tourney, there will be NO NATIONAL RESPECT for current Weber State BB (on Big Boy stage). But then, all you posters know that--despite your chest-pounding. :blah: THANKS to all you guys who provide some great stats & history on these posts! :thumb:

Sad how their is very minimal student support.

I am so excited to see how far we have climbed on the weekly cool kids at band camp report. All joking aside, I am interested to see if ESPN lists our game at Montana on Saturday on the games of the week list.

I don't think that the Mid Major Poll really gives any of the mid majors any national respect because the mid majors are the only ones who care. Weber is getting more exposure in the national media than almost any other mid major. That is thanks to Damian Lillard. On every broadcast they mention him as the guard out of Weber State many times a night. Damian is doing more for Weber States exposure than any silly poll could ever do.
