Thought that I would share this with everyone. I was in the Dallas area over this past weekend for a wedding and I was amazed how big football really is. I already knew that football was a religion, but you don't really get the full picture until you have been down their and witnessed it for yourself. I had many conversations while I was down there and they all revolved around two topics, the weather and football. Here is a link to a high school in Princeton, Texas where the population is just over 5,700. http://www.ihigh.com/princetonpanthers/gallery_6381.html?photo=0 This football stadium is fantastic! Also, if you look at the pictures at the top you can see what the new red turf at EWU will look like. I almost forgot to mention that this high school is only 3-A. Plus, they have an indoor practice facility! I find this pretty impressive when the town's fire department is 100% volunteer and the high school gets a mutli-million dollar football facility. God bless Texas!

Had a chance to drive by SMU where BLM transferred from. Very beautiful campus. Hope the Mitchell boys can look past the differences, because Cheney is no SMU!

I also found it interesting that most of the people I spoke to knew of EWU because of Matt Nichols. Let's hope that he receives a fair chance to compete. Go Eags!!
 
Texas Football is a religion. The competition starts in highly organized youth leagues, continues to Junior High where the various Junior High Schools have associations with a brother high school. The HS coaches give them thier playbook to work on so by the time the kids get to High School, they know all the plays backward and forward. The Mitchell boys all played for Katy High School, Texas' Team of the Decade. They have won a total of five State Championships at the highest 5A level. There are 32 5A Districts in Texas with an average of 7 teams per District; that's 224 teams trying to make the post season and Championship. When you break it down to 4A, 3A,2A, 1A and six man; you get the idea of the size. Bo was the QB of the 2007 Championship team. He visited Cheney before the season ended and was ready to make his committment until June Jones recruited him for Hawaii, then SMU, when Jones was hired there to turn the program around. Bo loved Cheney and the coach's, he just felt that SMU under Jones presented a better opportunity. Funny how things work out.
 
Having been stationed around the country to include Texas and SEC country, you can tell people about the passion that football inspires but to experience it is a revelation. There is no greater following, big town or small, than the local high school team. Loved it and miss it!
