Syracuse wins 81 to 34. The led by over 50. Is Syracuse that good? Was Montana that bad?

I DIDN'T WATCH THE GAME CUZ I DON'T HAVE THAT CHANNEL... MY MONTANA BUDDY TOLD ME HE WASN'T VERY IMPRESSED WITH CHERRY GETTING ON HIS TEAM MATES FOR PLAYING STUPID. THAT WAS AN A$$ KICKIN, AND CHERRY WON'T BE BACK NEXT YEAR, SO WHY NOT MAKE EVERYBODY ON YOUR TEAM HATE YOU. DID ANYBODY WATCH THE GAME THAT CAN ELABORATE ON THAT? MR EVERETT? :coffee: :coffee:

I REMEMBER BACK IN 2007 VALIEKA WAS PRETTY PISSED AFTER GETTING HIS A$$ HANDED TO HIM BY UCLA'S KEVIN LOVE AND RUSSEL WESTBROOK :coffee: :coffee:

It was a hard game to watch for the Griz fans. My main objection was to the announcer saying " they went 19-1 in their conference, but they don't have teams like Syracuse in the Big Sky Conf." He repeated that comment several time....no s**t, sherlock!

It was just the way this game played out.

it was hard to watch. i hated it. plus knowing they were our champ made it much worse for us all. i know we beat them pretty soundly in ogden but the fact is they beat us twice and won the sky. i was hoping for a better showing. it was an odd game we have never had a big sky team play that way in the ncaa's before.

griz can hang their hat on a good season. let us all forget last night's game. and to think the only reason i wasnt at the game was last minute work arrangements. so glad i wasnt there.

montana is the big sky king regardless until we can knock them off their perch.

I was kinda avoiding coming over here to see what you guys said, but its been better than reading eGriz. Those guys turned on our team and coach faster than I've ever seen. Terrible night for the Griz, but still proud of them for their season.

I agree, that that was one hard game to watch. On another note, one thing that probaly irritated Montana fans, was when one of the announcers said that Montana upset Weber State in the conference tournament.

I read some of the comments on eGriz. It's all heat of the moment stuff, but man, there are some angry guys over there.

Montana had a great season regardless of last night. The coaching was amazing all year long. Montana won some games that they should have lost just because of coaching and the fact that Jamar and Cherry refuse to lose. It was a very impressive year.

By the way Lennay, I love your avatar. It's both funny and true.

Didn't think UM had that much of a chance in that game anyway, but was surprised to see they were down 50. Ouch. The Griz had a great season, and they are still Big Sky Champs, we will see them again next year.

Weber is the lone Sky school playing now, lets hope they can go deep into the cit and restore a little bit of pride back into the Big Sky Conference

I really feel for Montana and their fans. Fact is, we have been on both sides of that senario. Games can turn ugly, like that, in a heart beat. One team goes on a run, and their confidence rises. The other team begins to have defeated thoughts. It just snowballs. Montana is much better than they showed and Syracuse is not as good as that would make them look. Tinkle is still a good coach and has a good program.

Our game with CPSLO was like that as well. We just happened to be on the other side of that senario.

Sometimes, a one point loss is harder to take. :twocents:

I've hesitated posting this, but Montana's total drubbing at the hands of Syracuse just confirms my opinion -- Weber State was the best team in the Big Sky this year.

I was seriously pissed at the format of the Big Sky tournament this year. If you have to play 3 games in 3 nights on a rival's floor, everybody has to play 3 game in 3 nights. Hosting games on your home court is enough of an advantage. But to only have to play 2 games in 2 nights on your own court was a total hose job by the conference to the rest of the league. When did we wear down -- the 4th quarter of the 3rd game. The very last 10 minutes of three nights in a row. Missed layups, missed FTs. Why? Because the Montana students were behind the basket? BS. Because UM players were superior and played with heart and hit big shots. BS! It was because our legs were gone by that point. Home court advantage is one thing, but wearing the field completely out before they get to play you -- on your home court -- terrible format!

This is a great run that UM is on and I've watched college basketball enough to respect it. BUT...call it 'sour grapes' if you like, I told Talhadfoursteals before the tournament began that winning that third night would be unbelievably difficult -- and not because it was Montana. I was pissed at the format when I saw it, and I'm still pissed at the format. I still believe we are the best team in the league, which just got more confirmation by Montana disappearing completely.

So lets go out and set the record for the most wins in Big Sky history! I like the attitude I'm hearing from our players. I still think we have something to prove.

Painful from a Big Sky perspective, but I feared the Syracuse strengths (defense, long- very athletic players & veteran coach) could take advantage & rout Montana what with their challenges. Bad night for the Griz...but salve is to remember a great conference yr. As a Wildcat fan, I can relate to the  last time Weber St was in NCAA against Ben Howland's Bruins...hoping & prayin that Wildcats could please at least score 40 pts.!! (Calling on great statistician catcat to reflect on when that was)...also think that the last Big Sky rep. win in NCAA was Montana over Nevada in (catcat??) So a Big Sky win in the NCAAs is very rare, but happens occasionally. Congrats to Montana & Coach Tinkle on a successful Big Sky season, know you'll be good next yr.

The one thing about the tournament format is that it should get the regular season champ into the NCAA tournament more years than not. It does give the regular season champ a distinct advantage. For that reason alone, I like it. If you are going to have a conference championship in a one bid conference, you might as well give as much of an advantage to the regular season champ as you can.

Most years the regular season champs are the best team. It just happened that this year that wasn't the case. Montana's run was amazing because they were doing it short handed and winning games that looked to be losses (Montana St., Sac St.) while winning all of their other close games. You've got to hand it to them for that. They earned their trip to the Big Dance

I think if Weber had won the regular season, everyone on this board would have more in favor of the tournament format.

I guess my argument would be that the league should want the best team in the league to represent them. The Sky had two teams go neck and neck this year all the way to the finish line.

In the old format, I believe we win the championship game. In the current format, a day off after the quarters, or a day off after the semis, I believe we win. I believe that, because I firmly believe we are the best team in the conference. Win the title, you get home court advantage. That's a huge deal. But this year's format tilted in far to much towards the champion. And the Sky was embarrassed by their representation.

If you aren't going to run a conference tournament, then win it all and go. I say good for you. Good luck Montana. You deserve it. But if you are going to run a conference tournament, this is a piss poor version.

If we hosted would I be complaining. No. You are right. But I can guarantee you, I'd still think it was a stupid way to run a conference tournament.

I love how we loose up there and it's the formats fault. "We had to play three straight nights and Montana only had to play two" I remember a team played 5 straight a few years back in a tourney won it and then won the national championship. Who cares how many you play straight we flopped and missed free throws and easy buckets. It's not the formats fault. Next year when we win you guys gonna let the team we beat in the championship complain about three straight games? I don't think so

I really let myself get worked up after watching that game last night. I really was pulling for Montana to have a good showing, but Eph! Not one guy gets more than 5 pts and they shoot 20% for the game. I think they shot something like 4 for 30 from the three line!! I just kept thinking Weber would have at least shown up! It left a very bitter taste in my mouth. (I also don't think Montana deserved a 13 seed)

I think your fans are just embarrassed so they are turning on the team/coach, but things will cool down. It would be stupid to try to run Tinkle out of town. The last couple of years its no contest who has the better coach in the BSC. Having said that, a lot of guys here started talking trash on Rahe after the BSC tourney, but how can you complain about a guy that only had two conference loses on the year?? Tinkle just has his number.

As the commentators often say, it's all about match-ups. And with little to no real post presence for Montana they just didn't match up very well against Syracuse's zone. Given the talent differential between conferences, Big Sky teams really need to find good match ups to pull off the upset. re: WSU over UNC. UNC was big and slow and Arceneaux exploited that.

In fact, even when it favors Weber I will dislike this format too. Weber and Montana were about equally good unless you don't consider 2 and 3 point loses in Missoula and a complete a-s.$-kicking in Ogden as well as their records pretty equivalent. When there are two teams this close to each other at the top of the standings, it's a shame to essentially handicap one of them so badly that it becomes nearly impossible to win. If you run this kind of format then play it at a neutral site so the best teams comes out of it fairly. Not that I like that, either. I like having a host team and I like all tournament games being played at the host site, just don't make the top two play 3 in 3 nights.
